Default Playgroups :(

Hi, I'm struggling with going to playgroup as I find them to be extremely cliquey and i'm also horrendous at small talk. I'm uncomfortable in groups and so playgroups are my idea of hell. My toddler needs to socialise with others of her age and enjoys going so I feel like I have to go. This morning I went to one and almost immediately broke out into a nervous sweat. I've been giving myself a hard time since as one person moved away after I started to initiate conversation. I do have problems with eye contact and tend to blurt silly things out when nervous. I know that I give out an 'odd' vibe when I'm uncomfortable so don't know how to become more relaxed when I'm there. If anyone has any tips I'd be v grateful

I used to go a storytime group at the library you might have one in your area. You just go and do nursery rhymes and songs you don't have to talk to anyone. I did take my son to playgroups but also hated it.

I used to take my son to a father and son play group, it was ok, I find I'm ok talking about kids, it's when I'm expected to talk about football that I clam up.
