For what reason would you send someone a Private Message ?
For what reason would you send someone a Private Message ? Have you ever received one out of the blue or thought about sending someone a PM for a particular reason
 1. To welcome someone new to the site 2. To befriend someone if you liked their style (online) 3. To argue with someone e.g. take some beef from an earlier debate on a thread that might have been locked or just to settle things in private 4. To send a supportive message if you read that someone was having a particularly bad time and wanted to comfort them 5. To express a romantic interest/ love desire for someone that you'd fallen for 6. Other reason(s) [specify] |

1. To make a complaint
 (poor mods, lol)2. Sometimes to thank people who have offered me advice/support on a thread. 3. When something in a thread has led on to a personal discussion about something I would rather keep private from the masses. Other than that, I am a bit poor at initiating PMs, but I do respond to the ones I receive

To congratulate them on their musical taste if I approve of it, usually. :P Or if they catch my eye in the PM buddies thread or whatever. I don't tend to send a great deal of PMs really.

None of them really. Probably just to continue or go deeper into a discussion we were having on the forums on an interest we both shared or something.

To send a supportive message if you read that someone was having a particularly bad time and wanted to comfort them And I send PMs about mod actions and the like. I would never hit on someone or carry on a debate via PM. |

I voted 'other' because I only really send PMs if I want to reply to a thread but it involves details & issues I don't want to share publically. I think a few times I have also PMed people when I realised I knew them in real life (I used to go a lot to a SA support group on meetup and there are at least 5 or 6 people from it here)

I voted other as well, as I only really send PM's in response to somebody else. Or else if we've been chatting on my 'wall' I will send a PM to chnage to talking in private as I feel more comfortable that way!

Mostly about arrangements for meets but that isn't nessesary most of the time.
I don't think I've ever sent a PM that wasn't a reply to one I was sent |

2, 4 and 6. But I'd be pretty nervous of 2 unless that person had said they were up for receiving PMs out of the blue. And 4 probably only if it was someone I knew a bit and had already spoken to them directly before.
The 'other' would of course be to inform people of moderation actions. |

To talk to people.
I rarely/if ever send the first message. It's nice to get them out of the blue..though sometimes only a few are sent back and forth..then that's it...maybe I come across as boring to some..after I've replied to them once or twice I have stayed in contact (long term) with a few members here. |

if i were to send a pvt message to someone it would be because i would like to talk to them :D get to know them and become friends, or keep in touch with ppl ive already spoke to privately, my confidece is so low at the moment ive stopped sending them, not like i used to send many anyway lol
