Re: Do you look your age?
I got asked recently what I was studying at uni. My bemused expression was met with the question "aren't you in your early 20's?" I'm 31. To me I look 35.

Re: Do you look your age?
I am told I look a fair bit younger but people probably think that is what people want to hear. I certainly dont act my age so that may have an effect and I tend to hang around with people of random ages which would make it difficult I guess. I doubt I could guess their ages within 5 or even 10 years in some cases.
Age becomes far less important as you get older I find. In my opinion anyway. |

Re: Do you look your age?
Yeah I've had this problem a lot and I think it's a big factor in my lack of confidence. I'm 30 and look around 14 I guess maybe younger I don't know.
When people ask me my age nowadays I just try to joke it off because I really can't stand their reactions. Sometimes I lie and say I'm 19/20 and then silently cry to myself when they say I look younger. I was having my eyebrows done recently and the lady asked me my age because apparently I "always look so young" which is a really weird thing to say because I don't think I've ever told her my age. Unless I gave them my date of birth when I first started going and she'd seen and was asking in disbelief. Probably thought I lying on the form because of course there's no way someone my age could look like that I wouldn't mind if they said it as a compliment but it isn't so they're basically insulting me to my face! |

Re: Do you look your age?
I used to get asked for ID even at aged 30 when buying alcohol. Could never make up my mind if it was an insult or a compliment.
Maybe it's in the genes. My mum had lovely soft youthful skin for her age when she was older; my dad is 78 next month and looks about 60/65 when sitting down. Or country living maybe |

Re: Do you look your age?
Yeah I'm 25 and almost always get ID'd for paracetamol. I went out for a meal with my boyfriend when I was about 23 (one of the very rare times we went out 'cause I'm so phobic) and I had a load of complete and utter assholes at the next table talk about how 'there was no way I was even 16' and that my partner was a 'paedophile'. There was 5 years between us.
Some guy just creepily tagged alongside me on the street and started chatting me up, & said 'how old are you, like 18?' That's probably the oldest anyone's guessed my age -- but considering how he kept going on about 'how he must be at least twice my age' I think he was obsessed with 'young girls' in general and guessing upwards of his real estimation to cover himself. It is very irritating and tiring plus it's often quite insulting, as so many people act like they think it's a bad thing despite the fact that it's just part of variety in life, and they employ no tact whatsoever. I feel less hurt by it now in a lot of ways as I recognise it as what it is and I know how old I am! The worst thing you can do is let them make you feel like a child and avoid buying drink etc.! It is a pain in the arse being talked to like a child and always having to prove yourself, though. |

I think I look my age. I don't always get ID'd which is good, so I'd say I do.

Re: Do you look your age?
I looked incredibly young in my 20s and I stayed in my room during my uni years. I've since filled out and my face has developed lines and my hair is greying. But I'm told I still look young for my age. Having a full head of hair helps.

Re: Do you look your age?
I don't know. I'm 24 and get ID'd most of the time. Some people are surprised to know that I'm 24 and apologise for asking for ID. But I don't look terribly young for my age at all. I don't exactly live a healthy lifestyle, I barely sleep and basically live on coffee and fags.

Re: Do you look your age?
I never used to look my age but since I turned 50 I look it plus some!!!! The pounds have piled on and I have a double chin :-( Worse still, I'm beginning to feel my age. My vision is getting worse, my hearing seems to be on the decline and the last marble that I did have is becoming increasingly harder to hold on to!!

Re: Do you look your age?
I could probably pass for mid 20's
I don't really get ID'ed anymore (the last time I got ID'ed I was about 27) I could probably shave and get away for looking younger if I wanted to..but who wants to shave..that just involves additional maintenance, cant be chuffed! (I'm 31) |

Re: Do you look your age?
People say that I don't look my nearly 50, although I have a few grey hairs coming in on my sideburns. Some people who were in the same year as me look nearer 60 than 50, must have hard paper rounds!

Re: Do you look your age?
I've always looked older than I am most of my life (which was handy when I was 15 and could get served in a pub) but recently I've heard that I look younger than my age. Ok, whatever age people think I am I'm still an ugly ****. Looking like a young ugly **** hardly makes me feel better about my mess of a face. Oh well.

Re: Do you look your age?
I look younger than my age and my peers, and I've always harboured a possibly nuts theory that because SAers arguably interact less with other people we don't necessarily have the speech or laughter lines that mark more gregarious faces. That said, it's surely mostly genes that determine these things - a friend of mine is fifty, has always smoked and drunk to excess, snorted and taken everything under the sun and still parties like he's 18 on very little sleep and he looks absolutely amazing and youthful, not a line or grey hair.

Re: Do you look your age?
29 now but probably still look younger, maybe early twenties? People usually don't believe me when I tell em. Sometimes they wanna argue the point which is funny as it's not really negotiable lol. I don't worry about it as much as I once did. I am what I am...Sam?

Re: Do you look your age?
No, nobody ever believes me when they find out how old I am. People seem to think it's a big compliment but I've always found it to just be yet another source of embarrassment and reason to feel 'wrong'.

Re: Do you look your age?
I seem to have always looked anything but my actual age. When I was a kid, people used to make fun of me for looking old somehow. There was this horrible girl a year above who I'd randomly bump into throughout school, and she'd always call me '60 Year Old' and generally make me feel like crap. I think also I was once compared to the grandpa from Hey Arnold.
Nowadays, no one ever believes I'm as old as I am. I'm 32 and I still get ID'd and sized up when I buy alcohol, and whenever anyone brings up my age they say I look at least 10 years younger. Make up your mind, people! |
