If i went for a 3x3 dd tarp with a synthetic sleeping bad it should cover enough not to need a bivvy bag, at least for summer use any road, and if a synthetic bag does get wet its not really going to be that much of an issue to dry it out? certainly compared to down bags. Rucksack is a bit of a sticking point as i need something with a long back, osprey packs look nice and cater for those with a long backs but they're expensive + i'm not really sure what load capacity i need. Stoves, i have a small home made alcohol stove that works ok and maybe team that up with a small folding wood stove if i'm going to be wild camping in the woods mostly. Pots and pans, titanium gear is light but it's pricey and i read a poor conductor of heat, aluminium sticks, stainless is heavy. Hydration, sawyer mini filter looks handy that way you don't have to carry so much water (did i read you have one of these? if so how do you find it) sleeping mat, maybe a closed cell foam one, kinda bulky and basic but nothing really to go wrong with them.
If bugs don't bother you you'd be alright with a tarp, and even though synthetic bags will deal with water better than a down I think you still might need a bivi.

You could do with a ground sheet to protect your matt too from sharp twigs and stuff.

Keep in mind that there's a lot more bugs in the woods, especially spiders and there's more condensation in the woods due to less air flow.

Have you considered a tent like a 2 man Zephyros?

Those are regarded as pretty much the best budget two man back packing tents.

You could get on the other week for as low as £102 quid from Blacks.

Could you get on with a torso sleeping pad?

Some people can, and you can get large torso pads.

I'd rather have a large torso pad than a regular pad I think.

How tall and bulky are you exactly?

I think you'd be really happy with a Zephyros 2 tent. Quite strong, light, easy to pitch for the price. Two doors and a porch. Keeps the bugs out.

Regarding packs I'd go for a 65 litre pack, which is what I have and would do you for a week maximum I reckon.

I think you might be alright with a medium pack, you just have to lengthen the shoulder straps fully. I think medium packs are made for people up to 6'2.

With Osprey you're pretty much looking at the best pacs you can get.

My 65 litre Karrimor bobcat was only £34 quid, and really isn't that much heavier than an Osprey pack, and seems built quite well.

I do have a sawyer mini. It only cost £17 quid and I spent a tenner on three one litre squeeze pouches too.

It's pretty much the best filter out there and a bloody bargain, buy it won't filter out some heavy metals, toxins and chemicals like a carbon filter would.

I've drank out of a stagnant puddle with dead flies in it and had no problems.

Another idea for a super cheap and lightweight stove is one of these. If youre willing to wait then you can get one from China in 2-3 weeks for peanuts. It's about double the price from the uk, but still peanuts.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-Porta...IAAOSwezVW0-WB

Regarding sleeping bags, look at the Long Mountain Hardwear Lamina range.

As for pots and pans. Titanium sticks more and really isn't that much lighter than aluminium.

Looks at anodized aluminium pots.

So today I was expecting a phone call from my Mum. We have a routine/signal of her ringing for ages so that I know it's Her.
Anyway I answered the phone and it was my support worker! I literally died! Ugh why can't I be normal? And why do I sound like a child on the phone? It was painful!

The happiest I've ever been was when I belived a lie that someone told me. In 28 years. That's a pathetic result in life.

If you can eat your way to happiness go for it, although chances are it won't work and you'll just feel sick.

Today I learned that there's a crazy expensive shoe company called R. Soles. I don't know if it was named as a joke or not.

I'm virtually falling asleep in the chair, I should have gone to bed about an hour ago, I think I keep stopping up late because once you go to bed the next thing to do is get-up and get ready for work and I'm trying to delay that somehow.

I need to be human again.

Why isn't there some kind of course for lost souls, trying to reconnect with being human. Late mini ramble, but why do i get the sense that i'd have to fly to India to get at such a thing.

This country.

I wish Skyrim was better, I really do. I've tried modding it, but the bad things are just built into the game, so it's really hard to fix them. You'd have to completely rebuild the game's mechanics from the ground up, which Bethesda really should have done.

What problems are you having, you're using the unofficial patches and such?

I have found a brilliant GP. Yes, you heard me. I am going to book weekly appointments and annoy the hell out of her. Well, not weekly, I have to book them at least 3 weeks in advance. If she ever moves practice I'm going to quit my job and re-locate to her next practice.

My long time GP retired, and now what was once an award winning practice, is in danger of being closed.

Anyway,

I think I've found the most annoying thing ever.

I've changed the lyrics of Amazing Grace to "pork floss" and I'm dancing around singing it in an Eddy Murphy like tone, in nothing but my drawers.

It's really annoying someone.

^ I meant to tell you, part way through yesterday that stoopid bacon pancakes song popped into my head. I know all the words. And my brain sings it on a loop like that 10 hour video you keep posting. Curse you Cairn!

Making pancakes, making bacon pancakes...

Soz, me wench.

I'm partial to whistling Big Spender on public transport at the mo.

At certain points I really bump up the volume and my old dear finds it hilarious.

I'm thinking about entertaining myself with my emergency whistle when I go hiking next week.
