Default Interesting piece about left-handedness and anxiety

I just found an interesting item on the BBC website, sorry I don't know how to put a link in but if you go to the main BBC news page and look down the "most popular stories now" bit you should find it.

It says left-handed people are more likely to get anxious, shy, or embarrassed about doing or saying what they want. It goes on to say that left-handed women are more held back (inhibited) than men. (Yes , I'm a left-handed woman!)

I was wondering how many people are left-handed on here and if this really is true?

I am...

Left Handed
Left footed
and can only wink properly with my left eye.

I guess I get the full whack!

Hahaha, sorry. In left-footed I just mean I can only kick properly, and other stuff with my left leg only. Same with handeness, I'm useless with my right arm, and this case I'm useless with my right leg.

Sorry if that didn't make any sense, my explanations are crap.

I think I understand now

That's kind of strange, is it something medically wrong with you or just something strange about yourself that you have noticed?

On further inspection I noticed that I kick slightly better with my right foot, probably just more used to it for football etc.

This is so far very interesting. I consider myself left-handed as I write with my left hand and use a spoon with my left hand etc, but if I play tennis I use my right hand, also my strongest arm for throwing is my right and when I used to play football I was right footed! Wierd!

Don't you need 2 hands to play pool/snooker?

I put my left hand on the table and use right to hold the cue.

i write right handed, but left handed when ironing, left handed with cutlery,(knife in left hand fork in right) but use my right hand with a spoon, but if just using a knife to butter bread i use my right hand! thats got to be weird! my family are a mixture of left and right handers perhaps thats where it comes from?

i'm also from a family of lefties and righties lol, i saw a light hearted programme years ago that did an experiment where lefties and righties all had to plunge their hand in freezing cold water all the lefties were less sensitive to the cold also they were more musical and more artistic, You lucky lefties!

Interesting

When there've been LH/RH polls on here, there were more than the usual proportion of lefties, iirc, though the objectivity of those polls was questioned too...

always thought it was slightly odd playing different sports right handed but so many people seem to do it.

Heres a mad one for ya, i play guitar right handed but play air guitar left handed! How mads that!!

i did restring it to play left handed but felt too weird.

Maybe there's something in in, I only thought around 1/10 were left-handed yet it seems at least half of us are.

Once someone said to me "You're left-handed, that explains alot" he never elaborated on this and i've always wondered what he meant by it.

There does seem to be a lot of left-handers on here. I'm right handed - I don't really use my left hand for anything.

Probably only the left handers have a reason to reply. If it was a poll it might be more balanced.

Im left handed and agree with the statement made because my parents and sister are right handed and none of them are anxious like me.

However, I can't use a computer mouse or any remote control with my left hand.

Another lefty here

I've often linked my left-handedness with my weirdness/gaucheness/anxiety

My uncle is also left-handed and of a very nervous disposition.

Im left handed. So is my Mom, and we are both quite emotional. I wouldnt say she is anxious though. At least not in the same way as me. I play the violin like a right handed person, but thats just because i failed to mention my left-handedness to my teacher when i first started.

I had some other problems when i was little, i used to write mirror-turned. Even though my dad would write my name correctly and tell me to copy what he had done, i still wrote it backwards and mirror-turned. Dont know what that was about, but it went away when i got a bit older.
