Default the world is laughing at us

theres this meme called socially awkward penguin, i've never seen it mentioned on here before and i've always found that bizarre. basically you can take almost anything we say in the sa room, apply it to this meme, and the world laughs.

heres some examples which i thought could have been lifted straight out of one of our conversations on here -

i was talking on the phone to a mate about this and i said "wow you could even do a special SAUK response version, where someone sees socially awkward penguin and has a socially awkward response", but theres actually several versions of that around already -

I haven't seen this before, I just did a search and it looks ooookay to me. It seems to be about common booboos that everybody makes every day. 'Normal' people seem to relate to it.

lol,..

just saw it, and couldn't stop laughing,..
very perceptive, and really subtle, good humour.
whoever came up with them seems to have an insight into SA behaviour.
some are a bit too familiar and very cringeworthy, but, as you say, you need to be able to laugh at all these faux pas, otherwise,......

I want to be exactly like socially awkward penguin when I grow up. I have the "socially awkward" part down, but I'm still working on the "penguin" part.

i think what it is is that theres a pretty broad spectrum of awkwardness that people feel before they have to feel miserable all the time and call it "sa". lots of "normal" people i think will have awkward moments and little insights.

its just funny how DIRECTLY the stuff on this site has translated over into this meme.

btw...it wasnt me who started it, promise O_O

I don't have an issue with this as it suggests to me that there is a significant proportion of society who will get it, which, I think, would require some level of empathy. Why penguin though?
It's not as hurtful as the countless jokes of which the punchline is that someone has no friends, and is therefore a suitable object of derision and ridicule.

I love these memes (well, the ones that are good) and have seen "socially-awkward penguin" before, but never associated it with social anxiety. Of course I relate to them, but I relate to many of these memes too. Especially foul bachelor frog

Awesome thread. I'd encountered Advice Dog and Insanity Wolf, I wasn't aware of Socially Awkward Penguin.

The ones about anxiety and low self esteem are gold. I should nab a few to use as desktop backgrounds to remind me never to do some of this ridiculous crap again.

Consider it stolen! I vow to do so from now on.

But beware, if you say it fast enough, it sounds like a poshly-spoken child calling their mother.

Thanks for the tutorial, Seth. There's a whole thing I didn't know before.

(just read that before posting and think maybe it sounds sarcastic, it's not supposed to be)
