when you say to yourself that you are going to change but it's always so much easier to say than do

Re: Change
It really is far easier to talk about making changes than it is to actually make those changes. Change comes with a lot of uncertainty and steps towards it can feel very stressful and scary. Sometimes it can feel safer to stick with the situation as we know it because even though we are not happy with it, we know we are currently coping to an extent.
Problem with that is, short term comfort comes at great longterm cost. It just stores up for another day the fact that we have to confront the reality that what we are doing is not working for us. Thing is though, change can be made with really small steps that test us, but are not designed to overwhelm us. I think the trick is to work out the directions of the changes in life we want to make. Base them all on what we value and care about in life. Then just make continual, managable steps in the valued directions. Mistakes will be made, we will encounter setbacks because that is simply how life works, but at least we are moving in the directions in life we care about. This is what makes life worth living. Another thing about change is that it is far more scary when it is forced upon us than it is if we take control and make the right changes for us through our own initiatives. |
