I see your point about privacy but what would happen if you had an emergency in the bathroom, slipping while in the bath and hitting your head off the edge for example. Who is going to get to you if the door is locked? It's a difficult one!

thumbturn locks can be opened from the outside with a coin.

I have a lock now, I live with a housemate as well as my bf so it's pretty essential (although I wish he would use it more often, housemate has a habit of peeing with the door open while we're in the lounge).
When I lived on my own I had no lock and it took a little bit of getting used to just closing it when my bf moved in - means I can't hear what's on telly!

mate of mine when i was at school they had one of them consetina fold up plastic doors on the bathroom, totally useless thing thing no sound proofing may as well be sat in the living room having a crap.

my girlfriends parents have saloon style swing doors on theirs but that is just the bathroom and no bog in there. but still seems strange to me.

I have a lock on my bathroom door here we never use it though. I'm lucky if Jade and Morgan even shut the door let alone lock it...Jay did the same never shut the door...Where as I do!

Err in Mallorca I had key locks on both the bathroom doors but we never needed to use em as the girls had their own bathroom and us ours.

And my old house had a lock and we used it coz thats the only way the door would stay shut.

And no lock on the bathroom door in the house I grew up in. At 1 point it was just a door faceiure which was kept shut with a wooden sewing box...Dad had to break the door down as mum tried slitting her wrists again.

LOL!

We don't have lock on our bathroom door, though I wish we did. It would stop those awkward moments when, at 3am in the morning, my half-asleep dad almost catches a horrifying sight of me on the lavvy.

In our house, we have a code-of-law; if the bathroom door is shut, there's someone in there so DON'T OPEN THE DOOR! Of course, when you've just woken up and your mind is still asleep, this may be hard to adhere to.

We as a family have always had a lock on the bathroom door..and used it, for as long as I've been on this planet. I never lock it or even close the door properly every time, when just having a pee.

We have a thumbturn lock on ours. I don't even like it when someone turns the door handle when I'm sitting on the throne. I'm a bit anal about toilet matters and hate having to do big jobs when there's anyone else around.

All three of ours have locks, but we didn't put them on. As it's just me and the hubs (except twice a year when his folks visit) there is no need for locks and I only use the lock when his folks are staying.

I wonder if they have an enema before their shift, so to speak? Apart from protecting your modesty whilst you're about your business, aren't they supposed to guard the palace against marauders of all kinds? I do wonder what their tactic would be if actually faced with some crazy-arsed terrorists - would they have at them with their pikes? I'd pay good money to see that.

Yes have a lock. When I've been to the loo in places without a lock feel very uncomfortable.

I hate using someone else's toilet if they haven't got a lock on the door, most unsettling!
I love our bathroom lock. Yep showing my nerdy traits now.
