I have a date lined up with a real girl, and not in the Lars and the real girl sense either, Problem is she want's to meet up tomorrow to go and see a band , I really like the band but I'm pretty sure she'll be going with friends as well . Now the prospect of a Date with someone I've not met in person yet is pretty scarry but the prospect of meeting along with her friends as well is hella scary. should i just go and most likely clam up and be quiet or drink too much and make a dick of myself. make up an excuse and rearrange or be honest?

As far as I can see, coming along to an event with her in a group of her friends is not a date. That said, it could probably serve the same purpose of getting to know each other better, so I'm not sure what I'm achieving by quibbling over semantics.

The fact that she wants to meet you along with a bunch of her friends rather than a proper date suggests to me that she's nervous of meeting you. I don't know whether bearing that in mind is likely to be any comfort or not.

I guess the only advice I can offer is that if you think you can handle it, then go for it. If not, then make your excuses and rearrange for something less intimidating. Only you can really know whether you're up to it.

But at least if it's at a gig, you've always got a good excuse for not talking to anyone: you were too absorbed in listening to the band.

Going with her mates could be that if you turn out to be a problem she at least has her friends there or probably just simply that she just thinks it'd be nice to go with you to the band and she was already going with her friends! If she has said explicitly or indicated pretty much that it's a date then it's a date. Remember to try and include her friends as much as you can. At the very least say hello and if your date goes off somewhere without you don't fail to tell her friends that you like her while she's gone. This way they'll be me accepting of you and they will make it work between you as best they can as they want their friend to be happy!

cheers for quick responses, we'd arranged to go for a few drinks in a local beauty spot next week just us two , but she messaged me today to say she was going to see the band and whether I'd like to join her. I'm still ambivalent . perhaps a few ciders will help me gain some perspective.

Sounds to me like the delay was a good move.

hey it went well , we got on great and had a really nice conversation, I don't think there was any romantic spark. but we will definitly see each other again but most likely just as friends. was very nervous before and for the majority of the evening my knee was having an epileptic fit. some people blush , some people get hand trembles my physical symptom is knee spasms.

By the way thanks for every-ones lovely comments , i don't deserve but they softened my shrivled little black heart. I feel I've neglected my Sauk buddies of late , sorry I've been more busy in the last three weeks then the previous three years. I'll try and update you all soon.
