I have a soft Scouse accent.

I once met a couple from Wolverhampton in the Albert Dock and they didn't believe I was born and bred in Liverpool, though. So my accent can't be that strong.

^ I hate it when people mimic me too Vi - even in fun. It really makes me cringe and feel angry with them too.

Don't you live in Northern Ireland, though? Usually they pronounce 'no' as 'naah'. I love that.

doesnt it annoy you to be criticised about your accent ? Nobody normally chooses to speak the way they do. they just pick it up from the local area. No area has the right to say its more "correct" .You can only say how it deviates from the national standard .That standard itself is only a random choice from all the possible dialects . I'm not saying it isnt useful to have a national standard.

I suppose I have a London accent.
But when I was in college I told a girl I was originally from New Zealand and she said 'yeah, I thought I could hear a New Zealand accent in your voice'. Well.. seeing as I moved here when I was 2 I doubt that somehow! But, I'm so used to my voice I wouldn't be able to detect an accent in there anyway! I don't notice accents of people I know well.

Stop that! It can get very confusing when people don't know what kind of owl you mean.

I know I said I have a 'common' accent and you'll have to ask winnie coz she's spoken to me, but I was brought up well and I can be extreamly well spoken when I want to be or the situation calls for it, I was always told to speak properly and conduct ones self in the proper manner.
I'm just lazy

I don't think you talk common at all Kate. You certainly have a London accent. But common? No way!
