Now called the Supermoon apparently, I assume for much the same reasons why the super devil was so named versus the normal everyday devil.

The moon, from where i'm viewing, is spectacularly white at the moment - it's hard to distinguish any 'marks' (you know what i mean).

Is it OK to look at the moon with binoculars? I wanted to before but was a bit worried about brightness.

The light from the moon won't damage your eye's like the sun would, it just hurts a bit because its so bright and you are out in the dark. You can get lunar filters but this just helps you to see more detail of the moon not safety reasons.

Yup, I missed the eclipse because I was dumb enough to only read one newspaper's account (why would I need to read several newspapers to learn the timings?). The link to the Independent (apparently a 'serious' paper) was completely wrong. I have the print-out in front of me and it says: "The lunar eclipse will then become total from 1.11am until 2.23 am." Well, thanks a lot. I'll start reading the Daily Mail instead.
