Default where do all the old posters go?

its weird...

people come on this site, they post like crazy for a few months, with all their dramas and crises, then they disappear...

remember that red-head guy, who thought he had aspergers...remember him? whatever happened to him?

i wonder if people get better and move on, or post under different names, or just wander off...

wonder who's been on the site the longest? ive been here a year. am i a relative newbie?

if you lie on your back
as it starts to get dark
under an ancient tree...
when the wind falls slack
and you hear the trees bark -
that's where the posters will be

I've been here 5 and a half years! I don't think there are many people here who can beat that, but there are one or two. It is strange to see people come and go. I miss a lot of the people I first spoke to, but they move on and life moves on (just me that doesn't!). I guess it does make me more guarded, you never know when the person who's posts you enjoy is going to up and leave.

I joined initially at sixteen, eight years ago. I stayed until I was eighteen when I lost my job and access to the internet. New fangled technology means i'm back on my mobile.

I started in 2000 too . It had been running for a few years but was very small no more than about 20 people.
I think those that get over SA see no need to stay . Those that get no benefit from the site leave . Some people who have much improved do stay ( such as me) because they feel a need to help others > I think part of the reason that I stay is that I have a near Aspergers need to work stuff out by analysing and argument so i argue with those here.

I remember him!. Did he or did'nt he then? i take it as a yes as you said the thread was in the Basement section.
In any forum i think when you join you have alot of Q's to ask and with time your worries may decrease and your find the answers your looking for.
I think alot of past members are like me in that when i first joined i made alot of posts in a short space of time but now i am a lurker and make relativley fewer posts. Those that never posts anymore probably feel better or even feel being on a forum like this may be bad for them so left.

I joined in 2000 under the name miffy. ( i know theres a new miffy on here now )I think i posted for a couple of years. I joined when i was at uni and stopped posting as a nasty virus killed my pc and i couldnt afford to get it fixed. I joined again in 2004 and posted for a year. Then stopped posting as i just didnt have time with a toddler and a lot of sickness. My sa never went just took a back burner. my babies are 4 and 1 now and im ready again to try and sort myself out.

there were very few social anxiety sites back in those days – really, just the national phobics website, which had a small sub-forum for social phobia, and doc richards’ mailing list which had about a thousand members, only a few of whom were from the UK, such as fiona and dave who started SAUK (or SAD UK as it was originally called).

i was just browsing through my diary from those days and it seems that on 22 june 2000, fiona, dave, rob (now afx777), chris (now hardy) and me (james) were in the chat room discussing the idea about organising a meet in london for the last week of july. the meet eventually happened in august and about 40 people turned up, which wasn’t bad considering the fledgling website was only five months old.

the chat room used to open only on thursday nights for a couple of hours, and later it switched to sunday nights and then 24/7. i remember anne was always in the chat room in those days, and her sister (brimble?) sometimes chatted on sunday nights.

around about the same time, andymc started a ‘rival’ social anxiety site with a forum and chat room. i seem to remember andymc, hoaxer and linda (who sadly died) always chatting in there. they all migrated to sauk eventually!

like a lot of people who discover this site i went through an addictive phase, spending every day on the forum and every night in the chat room deep into the wee small hours. i guess that lasted for about 10 months until i kicked the habit.

i still have very fond memories of those early days, which changed my life, and that’s probably why i still visit and occasionally post here.
Hi, this is Andymc, I've been away a long time now, have been on a downward spiral journey and am now on an upward one. I've been everywhere and bought every t shirt . Its good to be back, I couldnt remember my password, so have re registered. Hi Anonymous, you maybe remember me in my downward spiral time (when I enjoyed too much of a tipple ), as I obviously remember you from the meets, chatty and mad as a box of frogs

Wanted to say hi, I will introduce myself again on the intro part, as there seems to be lots of people on here now.

I haven't been here since the beginning, but I have been about since late 2002/early 2003. I think the problem with this place is that while it can be a fantastic refuge for likeminded people who may be in similar circumstances (which it very much is), at other times it's a reminder for how isolated you can feel when you realise you're disconnected and not very good at changing. Sometimes I find a break from all forum-based communication helps make me less depressed. I don't know if it's the same for the others.

I notice Ben has had his account banned by request, anyone know what happened there? He's been on the board for years and has always dished out good advice, i'd be a shame to loose him.
