If you enjoyed the Gunslinger, then I think you'll definitely enjoy the next book Have you read or heard of Wheel of Time? Now that is epic! It'll be 14 books and a prebook, by the end of the year. Shame with that set is Robert Jordan died before completing, so Brandon Sanderson was called in to finish off the last couple of books, and it's noticable that he doesn't have Jordans vision or talents with the story. Thankfully Jordan left extensive notation on his vision of completing the books, before he died. There were rumours that WoT would be turned in to a movie, which if done correctly, it has the potential in my view to outdo LOTR's, but it is still left to see whether anything shall come from that. Maybe after the final book in Oct, they'll revisit the idea. Dude, if you wanted to get stuck in to the story without having to wait until you can get all the books, have you considered downloading the audio book versions through torrents? You can get the whole set, load them up in to your mp3 (or keep them on the pc) and just listen to them as and when you please. If you're in to comics, you can do the same with those, download .cbr and .cbz files, to play on the laptop. |

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
Today I actually got to read! I have always gone through periods where I found reading almost impossible due to having a 10010101010thoughts rushing through my head.
It was so nice to actually sit down and read a book. Today I read, finished in one sitting, The Reluctant Fundamentalist. I thought it was very good, and had some themes which are really current to me; loyalty, identity, unrequited love and melancholy. As well as being a very interesting commentary on perceptions of the world today. I might try and finally start War and Peace tomorrow. |

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
A Clash of Kings - George R R Martin
2nd book in the series that comes after Game of Thrones. Very much enjoying it! Really fleshes out the stories of a lot of my favourite characters from the first book. Has an incredibly epic feel to it, feels like it's gradually building up to the shit really hitting the fan. The authors refusal to bend to fantasy tropes and let the good guys win all the time is incredibly ruthless and refreshing. |

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
Tried to read War and peace. Failed. Read 30pages of Crime and Punishment before my mind started to wonder and I lost the plot. ARGHHHHHHH so frustrating.
But I am currently reading. Gulag: A History by Anne Applebaum. Bloody hell it's grim but fascinating if you are a history geek or just want to learn about hardship. |

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
Dean Koontz - Your Heart Belongs To Me
Easy read, will probably be done by the time the weekend's out. Not scary so far, but I'm expecting nightmares since the first and last book I read by him scarred me for a while. Then again, I was like 10 when I read it, so |

I'm reading 'Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell' by someone whose name I can't be arsed to pick up the book next to me and ascertain. It's like 'Harry Potter' but without the excuse of being aimed at children.

Yeah, that one I didn't particularly dig but Bartimaeus was funny and the first kept me ticking over til the end (although slips at times). The others bored me a bit more but still reasonably enjoyable.

Speaking of which have now finished The Fry Chronicles which is his autobiography and was very good. Had it on audiobook so was nice to hear his story in his own voice. Am now onto Night and Day by Virginia Woolf - which is really good so far. Also on audiobook. In paperback am reading Painted in Blood by Pip Vaughn-Hughes. A bit of historical fiction set in 1242 - post crusades, when all the money is being used to create banks and Louis VIII's crushing of the Cathars and Templers. I love historical fiction as I feel like I've learnt something as well as had a good read. |
