Re: The Exercise Thread
Tbh ultimately its all about calories. There are some anti carb theories out there, but if you stick to sliw digesting ones with high fibre and keep the caloric intake lower than its expenditure then bioligically you should lose weight, while not torturing yourself.

Re: The Exercise Thread
Lol jesus! Yeh now and again you can have something bad to get it out your system! I particularly feel sorry for women who are fed misinformation from magazines who encourage crash dieting in the form of starvation, while making them feel jealous of skinny celebrities. Eating healthier should be encouraged for its health benefits, not just as a quick fix. Makes me sad actually, because once you grasp the need to make a gradual lifestyle change it really is so easy

I've been doing this for about six months in the morning of my 'workout days'. Initially I was doing around ten sets of thirty, but now I can pretty comfortably do eight sets of one hundred. I've definitely seen a big difference. |

Re: The Exercise Thread
Haha, it's easy enough if you just keep upping your limit steadily. I could barely do thirty at a time when I started.

Re: The Exercise Thread
Yeah it sounds good but I'm still pretty puny tbh. Struggle with keeping to a decent diet for bulking.
It's really fun though once you get into the habit of doing it, and so rewarding when you manage to be that little bit better than before. Just shove some decent music on loud and there ain't no stopping ya. |

Re: The Exercise Thread
^ 800 press ups is impressive but it's never going to build much in the way of size and strength. Strength is developed between 1 and 5 or so reps. Size from there up to say 15 reps depending on muscle group and volume. If you want to get stronger with pushups then it would be an idea to make them a lot harder by trying variations like one armed, diamonds or archers, especially if you can do 100 in one go! That is pure endurance.

Re: The Exercise Thread
When people say toning don't they mean building dense, lean muscles (and reducing body fat at the same time)?

You shouldn't be scared of lifting heavy weights because as a woman, you don't possess the same hormones that men do to build masses of muscle, so unless you take steroids (or eat tons and tons of food) you will never get to the stage that you are afraid of. So keep lifting! I see plenty of girls at the gym who can lift heavy weights and you can tell they are strong from their defined arms and legsetc, but they don't look overly big etc. |

Running is so addictive! I ran all the way to town today, about a 10 minute walk so not far but the furthest I've run so far.
Good swim on Friday, did about 10 lengths. I want a full gym membership but Peter doesn't think I can afford it being on JSA. |
