Do your friends, family or loved ones know about sauk?
Do you your friends, family, loved ones, casual acquaintances know that you use sauk?
Or do you keep it like a dirty little secret? |

Re: Do your friends, family or loved ones know about sauk?
I have mentioned the site to certain family but they are sadly reluctant to accept that their own SA needs to be addressed, rather the issue be ignored and maybe it'll go away. I'm sort of relieved that is the case as posting on here about family issues could pose problems if my kin ever looked in. Maybe that's my cue to be more discreet, and maybe more tactful, and less (fill in the blank).

Re: Do your friends, family or loved ones know about sauk?
I certainly keep it to myself.
My family would probably be concerned if I told them I have met people online, and even met up with them in person. When in reality there’s nothing wrong with that, as long as you’re careful. I doubt they would understand tbh! I think I quite like to keep it to myself to be honest. Especially as I’ve used this place for advice with family and friend relationships, and sometimes vent about them. |

Re: Do your friends, family or loved ones know about sauk?
It was my ex-ex-therapist (therapist before last) that mentioned it to me.
I don't suppose anyone else knows except me, you and Google Analytics. |

My mum does, and a few friends I've made from here who no longer use it.

Re: Do your friends, family or loved ones know about sauk?
If it was a choice between disclosing my appreciation for autoerotic asphyxiation, or my appreciation for SAUK, then I would gladly whip out my tie! It's certainly nothing personal that I haven't introduced SAUK to my one friend and family. I think what it really comes down to is the denial of having SA. In fact, it's only fairly recently that I've been working on my SA through journaling. Which has made me realise just how long I've been on autopilot. Inertia can be a slippery slope. Even after all these years of being a member, the thought of attending a SAUK meet seems undoable right now. Unless I was in full persona mode I suppose. With a rose between my teeth and a case full of personalised mugs! Although on reflection, that sounds appealing after all!

Re: Do your friends, family or loved ones know about sauk?
I don't have any friends whom I didn't meet via this forum. When I post elsewhere, I do mention the "anxiety forum", but not by name unless it's relevant (not because I am trying to hide anything).

Re: Do your friends, family or loved ones know about sauk?
^ yeah, I should imagine that's a similar picture for a few folk - having relationships/friendships from the forum so they'll know through that.
It's something I've vaguely mentioned it e.g. if I've gone to a meet. Similarly, I've not mentioned it by name because I think I'd feel inhibited in what I post if I thought anyone I know was reading it. That possibly stems back to having selective mutism and clamming up. Which feels weird because I'm quite open these days. Also it's not something that has naturally worked its way into a conversation. |
