^interesting. Like the Matthew Effect? i.e. social advantage begets more social advantage, social disadvantage leads to more social disadvantage.

Arrgggh for the love of God. I have been having txt messages from my landlord saying your in arrears etc etc... Err no i'm not. Rang them a few weeks ago and said i'm in receipt of full housing benefit etc etc.. there response - Oh Ok fine maybe it's just a payment schedule problem. Jolly good. More txt messages so emailed them and attached my scanned HB award letter. Got an email tonight saying that they haven't received any money since 30 march so I owe £981 thus far, that I need to contact HB as a matter of urgency and see why my payments are suspended. Which I will do. However out of interest I accessed my self service account for housing benefit and it's in full payment to landlord, last monthly payment - 29th of may.
So **** only knows where this money is going to....

is it maybe because the landlord's changed? The last ones haven't run off with everyone's rent money hopefully?!

Yeah that did occur to me but the new landlords did receive some payments before 30 march. Plus my HB award has been updated with the new rent amount which was changed by the new landlord, so there has obviously been contact between them and HB.

I suspect it has got something to do with it, in what way exactly I'm not sure - but yeah maybe the last lot have scuppered with the rent money!

I keep seeing this lame banking ad that seems to have something to do with mental health. Some woman has a post-it note on her forehead. Is this the latest thing? Banks pretending to care about mental health? Is this somehow ...trendy and socially conscious??

Being trendy and socially conscious seems to be a thing that companies do, which sometimes is not a bad thing but at other times seems to be a bit cynical.

Yeah, mental health has become the latest commodity to peddle bullshit. It's become the newest, trendiest thing to talk about but no ****er wants to stick their hands in their pocket and actually do anything to help.

People are only interested in mental health when it's palatable and easily fixed. Beyond that mental health is a pariah.

^I noticed that the Twitter account you're referring to had quite a few dodgy posts. Breitbart links, cartoons suggesting policemen going after Tommy Robinson are wasting time instead of going after real criminals.

Thanks to the protests, when the second wave most probably arrives, the Tories now have a ready made excuse- "we did warn people against mass gatherings, a number of very direct announcements were made". Their right wing media mouth pieces will buy this version of events, instead of attributing it to the shambolic relaxation of lockdown.

Remember all the hand wringing that's gone on about the Liverpool game going ahead? Today we've had thousands and thousands of people crowding together, obviously ideal conditions for the virus spreading like wild fire. And the protests will cause a lot of transmission of a virus that disproportionately hurts black, and ethnic minority people. Some black and ethnic minority people will likely get ill, and in some cases die, because of a march promoting the well being of black and ethnic minority people.

Just arrh

^ But we can't let them scapegoat the protesters. The government ordered people to go to back to work which meant people packing on to public transport again, they said people could travel so people flocked to the beaches and they insisted on reopening schools when teaching unions said it was too soon.

Anyone involved in the protests have said masks are being worn, hand sanitizer is being used and they're out in the open which is less risky than if people were gathering together in enclosed spaces.

I certainly do not agree with all the sheeple piling onto the nearest beach, however I didn't see many face masks being worn or hands being sanitized when idiots were throwing objects at mounted police or trashing war memorials to those who fought and died so they would have the freedom to behave like animals.

^ well I'm guessing people who cause that kind of trouble aren't bothered about anyone much. The pictures of the peaceful protests though were full of people wearing masks. I guess you have to be aware of what media outlets might be focusing on.

Look at all this diligent social distancing in South London:

Obviously, all the hand sanitiser in the world won't prevent the virus transmitting like wild fire in a mass gathering like this, with people crammed together shouting their protests. Lots of people will catch the virus, and, likely, some will get sick, and some will sadly die. And, of course, this will disproportionately hit black and ethnic minority people and families.

This will provide the Tories with just the excuse they'll probably need in a month or so

Well the majority of adult humans are between 1.8 and 2 metres tall and looking at the image I don't see any spaces big enough for a human adult to lay down therefore it's pretty safe to assume that the people are a lot less than 2 metres apart.

Some more scrupulous distancing:

Remember when Twitter went berserk about a dozen or so lame people doing a conga on VE day?

The Tories are, sadly, rather good at playing the scapegoating game. Hancock's made further direct and unambiguous statements today about the danger these protests present, laying the groundwork for the argument they may end up making fairly soon.
