Do you have any little pick me ups?
What are the little things that bring you a moment of joy?
Or they might bring a moment of calm/piece that just makes you feel nice for a little bit. Or it might be something that takes your mind off things for a moment or two. |

Re: Do you have any little pick me ups?
Studio Ghibli films are my go-to when I need to really relax. The pacing of them, the details of such tiny moments, beautiful artwork and animation, and the character interactions... Just makes me wish I could be living there in that moment.

Re: Do you have any little pick me ups?
Frasier episodes and a cup of hot chocolate (5 teaspoons of sugar)
I also want to add that it's a rather dainty teaspoon. Well, as far as teaspoons go, kind of dainty. Although it does seem to hold a lot of sugar for a dainty teaspoon. It might also resemble a dainty tablespoon. But I still stand by the fact that the spoon is definitely dainty. More or less. |

Re: Do you have any little pick me ups?
I like to look at my cat's paws and pick which one is my favourite on that day. She's a tortie so they're all different. Sometimes it's the softest one, sometimes it's the most colourful one, sometimes it's the cheesiest one. She loves a little paw inspection.
I also like to sit in the garden when it's sunny and watch the butterflies and bees. I've mentioned about the bee hotel a few times and that is nice to watch. A cup of violet loose leaf tea from my little tea pot. Roasted sweet potato strangely lifts my mood. |

Dogs, especially my daughter's dogs.
I spent a few days with them a couple of weeks ago and it was so nice waking up to 2 little dogs craving attention. |

@Nanuq - I love that movie so much! <3 Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, Porco Rosso, Laputa Castle in the Sky... Ahh they are just so good. Instantly brings me a feeling of calm laying down and watching them with a big blanket. ^_^

Re: Do you have any little pick me ups?
I like the act of going out to get a coffee, and maybe a cake. My life is quite lonely again at the moment, so just getting out and going into a coffee shop feels a bit like I'm entering the human race again, even only briefly. Then going for a walk round my local streets with the coffee, earphones in listening to some light ambient music or an audiobook. Sometimes I'll sit on a park bench if the weather (and bench!) is dry enough and have my coffee, watching the world go by. It's kind of bittersweet because I still feel lonely and miss having someone to message and to care for who cares back, but it's still a nice feeling to get out of the house, even for a brief while. I try to do it at least once a week.
I also like going out for a drive. I'm not a boy-racer or anything like that (if anything I'm a man-dawdler) but just the act of driving round familiar areas, music on, takes my mind off things. I usually have nowhere to go, but it's a nice feeling of freedom, even if it is a little bit of an illusion because I do eventually need to turn around and go back home, but it's nice to at least feel like I'm out doing something. |

Re: Do you have any little pick me ups?
Similar to Finlay above, I do enjoy going out to get a coffee. For me it's usually at some point over the weekend. Very occasionally I'll go out for a pint at one of the two local pubs within walking distance of me.
It's the same when it comes to driving around - it helps to take my mind off things. It's also good to have a change of scenery beyond home and the workplace. |

Re: Do you have any little pick me ups?
My cat. She's a beautiful tortoiseshell.
I first spotted her around 9 years ago scavenging in some local rubbish bins. She was a frightened kitten then and once I'd established that she didn't have a home I made her mine. Sadly she almost died while she was being spayed at the Vets due to human error. I was told by one Vet that it might be kinder to have her put to sleep but as she was so young I knew she deserved a chance. After a complex operation, which involved removing one of her kidneys, she lived to tell the tale. Last year, she suffered vestibular syndrome which left her with no hearing in one ear. As a result, she walks with her head cocked to one side and isn't agile like she used to be but, on the whole, has managed to adapt to her disability. She's an incredibly feisty Tortie girl for sure. She has bags of tortitude and if a big dog ran towards her - instead of sensibly running away, she would stand sideways with her back arched and her tail fluffed up or, failing that, she would charge at the dog until it retreated! She's on my bed every night and love, love loves endless tummy cuddles. Whatever crap life throws at me just a minute with her has me quickly smiling again. Our favourite thing these days is when I lift up the duvet and she scurries underneath then cuddles up purring beside me. She usually starts dribbling but who cares, she's my extra special baby! |
