Predators (2010) - surprisingly enjoyable, actually, was perfect daft action nonsense for my tired brain at the time, Adrien Brody strangely effective in his main role 7/10

Adam's Rib (1949) - Katharine Hepburn/Spencer Tracy battle-of-the-sexes courtroom drama/comedy, loved it 9/10

The Boondock Saints 2 -- the first one is often used as a marker for whether you can take someones film opinions seriously or not....... i.e. if they think it's great you cant. i dont think it deserves as much of a slagging as it gets... but any slagging this one gets aint enough. Terrible and Sean Patrick Flanery's character (already forgotten his name) is one of the most irritating people ever.

3/10

Death Race -- i think Death Race 2000 was crap except from the odd bit of black humour. This ones a very different film. Dont expect any intellectual stimulation at all and you MIGHT find it entertaining. i quite like Jason Statham though hes been much better in other things.

6/10

The Graduate -- finally watched this today. Enjoyed it but found the love based on one date where Ben acts like a dick on purpose very thin. i.e. the chemistry seemed very contrived. Classic ending of course and a few chuckles which was a pleasant surprise cos i dont tend to get many laughs from old films

7/10

Gridlock'd -- One of the films 2pac did before he got shot. Him and Tim Roth are junkies who get into allsorts of hijincks. Not much of a plot but some decent comedy knocking about (from Roth) and it kept me entertained!!

7/10

The Invention of Lying -- Ricky Gervais film. OK concept i guess: its a world where no one ever lies, they dont even know the concept of lying. Until Gervais' character lies one day and he realises he can do whatever he wants. But the social implications arent really challenged and its mainly weak laughs. if you like Gervais then go for 'Ghost Town' before this, this is empty and Gervais goes for the easy laughs he got from Extras (jokes at the expense of his weight and his 'pug nose')

4/10

It wasn't that bad, but I didn't really warm to the girl character at all and the whole feel of the film was like it was trying too hard to be cool.

I'd give it 3/10

I really disliked it. That ending....she was basically an emotionally ********, narcissistic cock tease. Add to that all the twee indieness, listening to The Smiths and watching French films *yawn*

i thought much the same about her but for me it just about worked because he wasnt much of a catch either. got to be careful what i say cos of the nature of this website......but lets just say even if she'd been great he'd have pulled the relationship apart with his ways. i think their obvious incompatibility is what made it get by because the comedy missed the mark, the odd bit of old man narrative seemed out of place for me too...

Quick 'review':

Junebug: dont do this often but quit on this after an hour (still about 45 mins to go). Excellently acted, all realistic written characters. Seen it described as a more intellectual version of Meet The Parents.......which i can understand but intellectual or not there really arent the laughs. Amy Adams 's character could get some if complimented by other characters but when shes in the comedy mode the others suck the life out of the scene. Not being critical of them, its just the writing. dulldulldulldulldull....... no rating cos only made it through about 60%.

The 2nd Tremor film was fun!

I seem to remember the 3rd one had flying graboids in it though, which kind of misses the point.

Proof of Life
3/10
This was awful. A lot of it looked superimposed even parts which I'm sure weren't. Meg Ryan may as well have been playing her role from When a Man Loves a Woman the acting was almost identical. Though I did like that film. The scenes out in the Latin American countryside where the man is held hostage are the best parts of the film but it doesn't save it.

Machete 8/10 If you've seen the awful Planet Terror you might remember the trailer for this which I assumed was just a spoof, but it turned out to be a proper full length movie! Well if you can guess by the title it's about a man who's weapon of choice is a machete so it doesn't take a genius to work out what it's going to be about.

But despite being an absolutely brainless action gore fest it's pretty damn good, it's funny as hell if you like dark humour. There some pretty good performances in here although nothing really stretching for the cast which includes: Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal, Don Johnson, Rob De Niro, Lindsay Lohan (?), Cheech Marin and apparently Quentin Tarantino (but I admit I didn't spot him!). If you've seen a Robert Rodiriguez film before you'll know roughly what to expect, and this is one of his best efforts despite being a pastiche of an cheap B-movie action flick.

^ The Machete trailer was originally just a spoof, but the character took on a cult status and the idea developed a huge fan-base, so Robert Rodriguez decided to make it into a proper film!
