I wish I knew how to decide what I actually want from life, other people seem to just know exactly what they want and where they want to be in say 5 or 10 years time.
I can't even decide what to cook for my dinner tonight!

^ I keep reading BC will go mainstream post pandemic and hit $250k.
But the entire industry is being orchestrated by Elon's twitter page it seems.
The whole thing is a farce.
There is spondulix to be made somewhere within said farce though.

Decisions decisions.

He's the only one off his trolley enough to put his money where his mouth is, having Tesla throw 1.5 billion at magic internet money increased my wallet so I ain't complaining

Theres rumours of Apple doing it, I find it very hard to believe..but if they actually did it'll go nuts.

There has been a lot of money to be easily made during the pandemic, but in the shares of companies that have either temporarily lost value due to closure or seen an increase in income/interest due to profiting from it (or especially in index funds since last March). The only strategies that work with those are research and patience, and people new to investing don't seem to be interested in either of those things. They get too excited by the idea of doubling or tripling (or more) their money within a couple of days, and most fall victim to what is basically a pyramid scheme. You can work out whether shares are overvalued or undervalued based on how much a company is worth, its potential and its dividends, but the value of cryptocurrency is purely what people are willing to pay for it. It kind of feels like some are being taken advantage of when they get convinced they're going to get rich quick. The only people who are getting rich quick from it are a very small minority, and they're getting rich by exploiting the gullible majority. If people were willing to be patient they could make far more with their savings than the pitiful amounts banks pay out while at the same time not falling for headlines and memes.

I sold my bitcoin holding last month after initially buying some almost eight years ago. I forgot I'd even had any until the end of 2017 when it was in the news (it was the change left over from initially buying some on a whim and then spending it on a couple of domain names). It's just too volatile and I believe the money will be better held in something slow and steady.

I suppose it depends how much of a gamble your up for.

Throwing money on shares for the likes of cinemas/restaurants/travel companies right as covid hit is probably safe and steady (providing they dont go bust!)

Throwing money at some of the more well known cryptos is probably likely to pay off but you might be stuck holding for a while (at one point a few years back I had about 3 grand in bitcoin which at its worse was worth about £700) - I'd say the people at work who found it quite amusing back then have different views now. It is something we talk about at work a bit as we did have a few miners on the go at one point.

Throw money at the coins you've never heard of - well you might as well go to a casino.

(and it the time it took me to type that, bitcoin dropped about £300 )

Bitcoin gets me annoyed as it's basically designed to be as inefficient as possible. Something like the electricity usage of Argentina! is being consumed for Bitcoin, 99.99% of which is just doing literally useless numerical calculations. If the price goes up, it becomes marginally profitable for a bunch more bitcoin miners to burn electricity to do the same thing.
I guess this wouldn't be so bad in a cold country, as the excess energy all turns into heat, but it's generally wasted, uncaptured heat, and you're still using a lot of precious resources and rare metals to build the equipment that keeps this pyramid scheme afloat.
It shows that Elon Musk really has no consideration for the environment despite what he claims he's trying to do with Tesla. He's really just a rich manchild with a cult following.

What he's trying to do with Tesla is develop extremely cheap energy storage that can send cargo and life to Mars.

Cars are just a by product of that.

But then, me alone, making an exorbitant amount of pancakes, then just HAVING to eat them all, oh dear, no.
I'll stick with tea and a couple of biccies tonight, as usual.

I’m trying to figure out what to get my sisters newest boyfriend for his birthday. I don’t know him that well. I spoke to him on the phone at Christmas and all I really remember him saying was “convince your mum to turn the garage into a home gym”. That’s not happening.
Most of my family members have their birthdays in April and for them I’m doing mystery book boxes. A book that I’ll have a rough guess they’ll enjoy, some snuggly socks and a little snack. He doesn’t come across as someone who likes putting on snuggly socks and reading though.

^That was quite entertaining.

Oh just the usual, I've been having one of my I've been such a fool days. Odd moments of being depressed as ****. And then snapping out of it. This has been a very self-absorbed year for me. I need to tell my whole sorry, rambling, circular tale to someone at some point. Am thinking of going on holiday by myself in the UK to process things; I see things are being snapped up already.

How pleasant that shop assistant was in B&q then. I had forgotten what it was like to go somewhere and be greeted warmly and a little friendly chat. I put headphones on when I go the supermarket and do the scan as you shop thing. Never even have to make eye contact if I don’t want to. I’ve only been off work since December, how quickly you can forget what used to feel normal.

It’s made me think too about going back to work now we’ve got an expected date. I’m probably not always the friendliest in work, I’m the manager so I’m usually quite busy and I can be abrupt with people. I’m not like my sales assistant who talks for hours and hours to people. It’s worth baring in mind that people might be coming in having had a really shit time and if I have the opportunity to brighten their day even a little then maybe I could try?

A few weeks before Christmas I unintentionally made someone feel better. A woman came in to donate not realising we had all the these new rules about how items have to be contained. She came in an obvious shit mood and got increasingly annoyed despite my efforts to help her. Anyway she went away to sort out her items and while she was gone a customer who I always make time for came in for a browse. I was getting concerned about her being on her own all the time as she’s elderly and family are mostly dead plus with COVID and her breathing problems she wasn’t allowed to do her usual volunteering job. I said to her that she could come into the shop any time she wanted even just to have a natter and a cup of tea and I’d keep her in the back so she was safe from other people.
I’d noticed the other lady came back into the shop in my peripheral vision but I was talking so I ignored her. When she approached me I thought she was going to reprimand me for ignoring her but she just said how nice it was what I’d said to the other woman and I muttered something about how I didn’t like that she was lonely when she didn’t have to be. The woman changed then she happily chatted to me and even signed up to gift aid her items. I don’t understand it exactly but something about her witnessing me extending kindness to another person broke her out of whatever was eating at her.

^No, don't think that. It's probably worse when you're young anyway.

^^That's lovely.

I knew I needed to be on my own when I was still young but I see it was so I could deconstruct and then reconstruct myself. Sounds weird, but it was so essential.

I suspect most people would not consider going home covered in animal guts and blood - with a kill count in the hundreds - a good day in their life - but thank **** for society that it has always had cheap, disposable labour - "unpeople" to use Mark Curtis's word - to keep the madness of industrial civilization going.
Answering as someone who eats meat: yes, I think about it sometimes, but only in the same way that I think about any other comparable part of the workforce. It can't be nice spending all day picking vegetables, sewing clothes, soldering computer parts, boxing Amazon orders, etc. There are lots of unpleasant jobs that people do because they don't really have a choice not to. Do you think the human element of the meat industry is worse than any other example of cheap disposable labour purely because of your beliefs about the animals involved in it? I'm sure to many of those who actually work in those kinds of abattoir jobs, one repetitive and physically demanding job is much the same as any other. To spend all day cutting the heads off chickens might be no different to spending all day chopping the stems off pumpkins.

Someone doing an unpleasant job so that others can enjoy what's believed by someone else to be a temporary or unnecessary pleasure isn't exclusive to the meat industry though. Hundreds of workers have died or been injured in phone factories over the last few years due to working with toxic chemicals in unsafe conditions. That's enough to put people off the idea of even owning a phone, or at least not replacing theirs until it's so old and damaged that it's beyond being fixed, but most people don't care, they'll get a new one every 12/18/24 months regardless of the conditions they're made in. A child in Bangladesh losing their hands in a machine? Who cares, these Primark t-shirts are only two for £3, what a bargain. Contributing to the exploitation of delivery drivers by ordering everything online even though I'm perfectly capable of going shopping myself? Oh well, I simply can't be bothered leaving the house.

We all have lines that we're willing to cross or circumstances we're willing to ignore for our pleasures or whims to be satisfied.

^^Ooh no, I don't agree with your first paragraph at all. At least not for me. And I have done those sorts of jobs (nice EU first world ones, obviously) and I used to think about what I was and wasn't willing to do. I think you would have to be a particular sort of person for that not to mess with your head. It's not the same amount of killing you would do if you were only killing for yourself/your family.

I think I'm going to stop reading/watching the news for a while.

I didn't read anything newsy yesterday and I don't think I missed anything.

A few years ago I used to never follow the news but since Brexit and the last few elections and then covid I got sucked back into it again.

Wish me luck! I'm sure if anything big happens I'll find out about it.

^^^^ if these unpleasant jobs didn't exist, what would happen to the people who do them? Maybe there would be more jobs in the vegan food industry, but I expect it is less a lot less labour-intensive.
Not that I feel compelled to change my diet to keep someone in work, but I wouldn't change it to keep someone out of a bad employment situation either.
