Default What about a 'Leaving' section on SAUK

Hi,

On a few other sites like this one, as well as an 'introduction and welcome' section, they also have a 'Leaving' section.

People say farewell and explain why they are leaving, for good positive reasons (i.e they are cured) or less positive (sticking to the rules of course).

Personally I would like to know when people are leaving rather than just let them slip away unnoticed. Also it could be good in making the site more effective or whatever if there is any constructive criticism etc.

What do people think?

I think in many cases people prefer to slip away unnoticed, or they gradually stop coming to the site because they no longer need the support, and never really make the decision to 'quit'. Personally I wouldn't make a goodbye topic saying I was cured, because if I then discovered that I wasn't quite as cured as I thought, I'd be embarrassed to come back. I would PM anyone I wanted to tell and then vanish. Then if I wanted to come back it wouldn't feel like such a big deal.

I really don't think 'less positive' leaving posts are a good idea. If you're leaving because you don't like the way the site operates, you can let us know privately. If you're leaving because you don't like the people here, don't tell us that please, we have SA and we'll be crushed!

^Ha! I made a big leaving post once think 2 years ago when I'd figured out I'd overcome the majority of my SA. I come back from time to time (like now). I'm not embarrassed, it's not a big deal.

re the leaving section. this could potentially be the outlet for some of the most passive aggressive behaviour the forum has ever seen. can we really live without that?

i know the mods will do the right thing

Sauk is like the Hotel California: you can log out anytime you like, but you can never leave..

That is why none of us can leave cos there is no leaving section - we are all stuck here for ever! Even amnesty international sending us postcards won't work - there is no leaving section . Even those caught trying to tunnel out have been forced to re-register and write something in introduction and welcome section.

Who caught you? Was it a mod? Shall we tunnel into their secret bunker and steal the keys?

Just wondering, can we just ask the mods to give us a permanent ban?

^ life changes. One day a person may feel they no longer need this site and they can get on better without it. Then something changes in their life and they suddenly feel they need support and advice. Life is unpredictable.

Just out of interest - why do you see next to some people's name that they are "banned at their own request"?

Is that like finding a copper in the street and saying "look, you'd better arrest me now, because after this 4 pack of Tesco value lager I am liable to turn into a right animal?"
