Default NLP as therapy: anyone tried it?

Over on another thread, NLP was mentioned.
Just curious as to whether anyone knows if NLP is appropriate option for addressing SA and anxiety.
All I know about NLP is that the courses are horrendously expensive.
Either its because its a viable methodology, or its been marketed so well.

So, is NLP worth a shot?

For someone not in the know, what does NLP stand for?

Ah I see, if I remember correct, a self-help book I bought used NLP to try and increase my confidence. I can't say it worked for me, I found the whole thing just a little odd really. However, it may well be different for others, and, obviously, I'd imagine a therapist that specialises in this would be better than a book.

Never tried it, but one of my friends and her father are well into it. I think part of the idea is that you can choose to forget memories of past events if they are not useful and causing you harm. I'm not su sure about this part of it!

tbh though, that's all I have heard about it. That, and Deren Brown was once a practicioner of NLP

I'm casting the net for as many things which can help my recovery and NLP is being offered as a free course in a local town so I'm going to go.

My mum told me about NLP about a month ago because she said it helped a friend of hers who was going through chemo. It has no medicinal benefits whatsoever, it's all about the way you think but it helped this girl change her outlook and gave her strength and it may help me in my writing who knows.

I find it a bit confusing myself and it's widely discredited but it may help change my mind frame for the better.

hi Dandelion10,

Its the reframing aspect that caught my interest.
If SA and anxiety is about focussing negatively on the wrong things, I thought learning to rethink the situation, or focus on different things, or learning to rebalance the thought processes that cause anxiety, without pills, might be worth a shot.

Would really like to get your feedback on this course you're thinking of going to.
Let us know how it goes. Good luck.
