Default What do you consistently re-watch ?

All this TV talk with Mr Chessington has got me thinking.

No matter how much new stuff there is to watch, no matter how much stuff I have recorded that needs watching and deleting, there's a quality batch of shows, that from either S1E1 or just any random episodes, I always go back and re-watch.

For the quality yes, but mainly for the comfort and cosiness.

So what are yours ?

Columbo
Murder, She Wrote (my personal god tier of comfort)
Various bits of Trek (DS9/Voyager)
Frasier

Probably some more I've forgotten. Not sure if it's concerning that most of it is murder related lol. Lewis could have been a contender but notsomuch now

I only seem to watch Frasier and I, Claudius lately. Although I do watch the occasional Seinfeld episode on Netflix.

Not much. For some reason rewatching things feels pointless because I've already seen it.
Sometimes I'll rewatch a thing on YouTube if it crops up again, like episodes of Map Men. (which is always very funny)
Stuff I liked or have on DVD I never watch again.
I may play games again, if I can finish them in a different way. I've spent literally hundreds of hours on Elden Ring and still not finished, but I did recently get to the last boss. I doubt I'll replay it because I have seen almost everything there is to see in the game, defeated almost all the bosses except Malenia and a few dragons. I might get the DLC that is supposedly coming soon though.

Yeah, I agree... I don't really understand the pleasure of watching things on repeat when there's an unlimited amount of new things to enjoy. Life's too short for that. I don't know how anyone can enjoy playing the same remastered versions of games through three console generations when they're already very familiar with the story either - like you say, there might be replayability if you can do it all again differently, but often with games played on repeat there isn't.

Jonathan Creek, the golden era (series 1 - 4).

It went downhill when Julia Sawalha left at the end of series 4. The subsequent specials, with Sheridan Smith as Jonathan's companion were meh at best. The most recent series, with a married Jonathan moving out of the windmill, packing in his job as a magician's assistant and becoming an accountant or something, didn't feel like Jonathan Creek at all. There was one episode in particular - the one set in a theatre - where I'm convinced they were trying to emulate (the hugely popular, at the time) Sherlock. It was dog shit. I've veered off topic a bit haha, but nevertheless the early seasons are elite tier comfort telly for me.

Around 2010 I watched Hetty Wainthropp for the first time.
Then re-watched till about 2014.
Proper slow, proper northern telly.

Now I can't bare it.

Plus old school offerings can bring comfort in nostalgia and familiarity. Plus there's nothing new under the sun anyway. Etc, etc, etc.
I said I don't understand the pleasure in it, i.e. I can't relate to wanting to do it, not that I don't understand the motivation behind it (I do).

The what are you watching thread is also full of modern television shows that people really enjoy. If someone's aim is to watch something that makes them actually laugh (e.g. not in a "Haha I remember this" kind of way) then taking a chance on something they haven't seen before is the only way, since comedy is about the unexpected. Watching new things isn't about following trends, it's what you have to do if you want to be entertained rather than comforted. There was a time when your old favourites from the 90s were unfamiliar to you and you watched them for the first time hoping to find something new to enjoy. If you didn't then you'd still be on Postman Pat.

The concerning part is, who is laughing at Only Fools for the hundreth time? Was anyone even laughing at it the first time?

Peep Show
The Inbetweeners
Brooklyn 99,
I don't watching them over and over but have watched them more than once. Luckily for me I have a terrible memory so forget a lot of content, so things I've liked I find worth watching again. Also watching something you've enjoyed with someone who hasn't seen it before can be nice.
I tend to only watch sitcoms more than once. Something really well written and well performed and well timed can make me laugh more than once. I wouldn't bother watching a straight drama twice as the entertainment is in finding out the story.

I tend to rewatch stuff a lot more than watching new stuff. Though I should try to see more new things. Rewatching things is quite comforting though.

Only Fools & Horses
The Simpsons (only episodes from the 1990s, it loses its touch after that)
One Foot in the Grave
Blackadder
Curb Your Enthusiasm

Films:
Planes, Trains & Automobiles - I’ve had to buy the DVD again as I ruined the last one by using it so much!
Original Star Wars trilogy
Indiana Jones (only 1st and 3rd ones)

There’s loads of other stuff I could watch a few times, but those above are the things I could watch countless times and still like watching them.

I was hoping to include something arty in the above list - I do watch a lot of those, but there’s very few I’d watch over and over again as something comforting.

When I say I like to rewatch stuff, I remember someone saying they couldn’t understand why I’d want to watch something again. But that would be like finding a song I like and never listening to it again, or eating something delicious but then never again!

Me.

Really don’t care if people think it’s naff to be honest!
(Though I wish they’d stop making documentaries about it with ‘talking heads’ saying how it’s the best thing ever made and the ‘falling through the bar’ scene is the funniest thing in the history of humankind)

^ Yes, my son said that not long ago about films, because I tend to only watch films once because after that I feel like I know the story. He watches films over and over again and when he was watching Baby Driver recently I said "What, again??" and he said, you listen to the same albums more than once don't you?

I'd never thought of it that way before, like watching a film can be about the feeling it gives you, or the score, or the lighting, or just the way it all fits together, rather than just the narrative.

I don't anymore but I used to.

Buffy
old Simpsons
Friends (overdid it)
Frasier
Father Ted (overdid it)
Blackadder (overdid it)
Peep Show

There's probably ones I'm forgetting.

Oh and of course, the most rewatched both in full and in odd snippets, drumroll please...BBC 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice. Its a family favourite. Now I limit myself to only watching odd scenes when it comes on the telly, like the Netherfield Ball, Lady Catherine arriving etc.
