almost got a secondary job at the butchers. I went in for faggots and they said 'sorry, we can't make them as don't have enough staff, if you know anyone who wants a job?'
I said 'part-time?' Then they went quiet. Anyway I bought a burger.

Having to deal with health issues which are stressful both from an SA and a general perspective.
Feeling like I have little support for this kind of thing. The rest of my family are all a long way away and I have no close friends.

I am so tired! I was unemployed for eight months and now I'm day 5 of 12 hour night shifts.

I sleep horribly working nights and have had maybe 12 hours sleep TOTAL in the last week.

@ Neverwas - I know this place is no substitute for family and friends, but there are people here who can understand and relate.

As Dougella says, you can share anything here and us folk will understand. I hope you are able to sort out those health issues soon

I'm feeling the same as yesterday and the day before that and on and on and on it goes...

I just get these sudden extremely gloomy moods at times, not with any obvious trigger.
Today I feel tired but on edge, jittery, probably from too much caffeine.

Feeling so stressed and very sad about our 16 year old cat. We just paid £200 to the Vet to basically be told what we already knew.

She has severe thyroid issues and kidney disease and there's nothing that can be done. She's drinking excessively, is barely eating and is losing weight rapidly. She's still loving and affectionate though. The vet said that when she stops eating completely and doesn't want affection to think about calling it a day. This is the WORST part of having a pet. She absolutely hates going to the vets so we will have someone come here when it's time. I wish she would drift off naturally and peacefully in her sleep so we won't have to make the decision

^^Really sorry to hear that Consolida, it's such a difficult decision to make. It's good that the vet will come to the house, that's always better so the pet is in their own comfortable environment

It is the worst part of having a pet and sadly, because their lifespans are relatively short (but also long enough that they become integral family members), an inevitably. Whenever you make that decision (unless you are spared, mercifully, from having to make it), it will be made with love and the desire to prevent a loved one from suffering unnecessarily.

It's a horrible decision to have to make, but knowing that it's for the right reasons and that she had a good life should, I hope, give you some strength.

Oh my gosh! This is my 11th 12 hour night shift in a row. I'm also stuck doing the physical side for a few months.

I forgot the body can ache like this lol

Consolida, so sorry to hear about your cat. It must be traumatic, and I think pets are part of the family. 16 seems like a good age for a cat, so at least she has had a long life in a loving home.

I'm so sorry you've had to go through that with your dogs Humphrey. Seeing a much loved pet age and decline and then having to decide when it's time to say goodbye is the hardest part about having a pet and makes me feel that I don't want anymore after all mine have gone (but I probably will).

My husband thinks we should call the vet to the house soon, maybe tomorrow, before she really starts to suffer but I keep wanting to wait one more day. I think most vets will come to the home (for a substantial fee of course) and I'm sure it must make things a little less frightening for the pet. She always panics in the car and she started to pant when we took her the other day so I can't put her through all that again. She's always loved ham as a treat but doesn't even want that tonight so I know things must be bad

Thank you GI. It's certainly the worst thing about having a pet and you're right about them being an integral part of the family. We inherited her from my mum 19 months ago, after she passed away, and most nights she sleeps on the bed between myself and my husband. She was originally a rescue cat and has been such a loving friend to us all.

Thanks Tembo. Yep, 16 is 80 something in human years I think so she's had a long life which brings some comfort but, as with humans, it's still never long enough

^ Aw yes, we had two dogs that needed to be put the sleep (at seperate times) and the vet came to the house both times so it wasn't stressful for them at all and we could say goodbye properly. It's so sad, but it's often the best thing when they do get to a point of suffering and it's not possible for them to recover

Feeling heartbroken. The vet is here now and so I said my goodbyes and had to go to a different room as I couldn't stop the tears and I want to remember her alive. My husband has stayed by her side while she takes her last sleep. We spent the morning cuddling with her on the bed. She was such a loving and affectionate girl and we were so lucky to have her in our lives.
