Default Well hey :)

Hi everyone!

I'm Laura, a uni student (trainee teacher, of all things). This is a bit scary putting down in words on the internet, but I really want to find new coping methods. Hopefully finding people going through something similar will help me work through my anxiety.

Being a uni student has made it really hard to deal with social anxiety, especially as I didn't really know I had it until recently. With a new semester coming up, I thought I'd really try and face this head on and get some support in place before I'm thrown back in. An entire year of people, all in one room from day one again? Not something I really want to do but I'm going to get through it, one way or the other.

I'm currently going to counselling for my disorder and I asked about support groups, so I was directed to the internet. This place seems to have a thriving community full of lovely people, so I'm pretty happy to have found it! A big thing for me has been realising that the things I'm thinking and feeling happen to other people and to speak to other people about it, so fingers crossed this helps!

Right, so that was probably too much info to throw at you for a first post but I'm pretty nervous about this, as you can probably tell. Asides from that, I'm more than happy to talk to people, so feel free to drop me a message or whatever.

Peace!
Laura

Hi everyone! Super relieved I got some replies, would've been super daunted if I didn't. Nice to hear there's some other uni students and teachers here! Super warm welcome, thank you!

Hi. A handy tip - in lecture rooms, get in early and choose a seat near a door or aisle or just somwhere you can fade into the background. For me the worst was being seated front and centre, and unable to escape prying eyes.

Man, everyone is so lovely here! It's so calming for a change, knowing that I can actually talk to people and they'll understand what I'm on about.

Thanks for the tip 'umm'! I instinctively go towards corners and walls anyway, but tbh it's just to nice to know that people do the same thing too.
