This is also why people do need to read the information leaflets that come with prescriptions carefully (although obviously when you're not in a good place mentally it can be hard to do that for some people).

Everyone needs to be told explicitly that drinking alcohol when on antidepressants isn't safe, and why.

People also need to be monitored carefully by their GP in the first weeks of starting an antidepressant or changing to a different one so that any problems can be flagged up.

Just for some balance here though, I've been on an antidepressant for quite a few years now and i haven;t experienced any of the side effects mentioned and it has helped with my depression.
i also don't drink alcohol, so that could be a factor aswell.
