Default Andy Murray

He's the man apparently. So do we see him as Scottish or British? Does he see himself as Scottish or British?

I hope he wins so I can wrap myself in the union jack and run naked down the road.

He's both...he's Scottish which means he's British... I don't know why he has so many haters just because he said once that he'd rather anyone to win in football than England...then said he was joking, people think he's anti English which is a load of dogs bollocks.

He deserves to win more than Roger because he's worked harder than anyone else on tour over the last few years to get to slam finals...its written in the script for Andy to beat the best player of all time tomorrow..

It will be a close game, both players have huge incentives to win but Andy to win in 5.

COME ON ANDY, SON.

I'll probably back roger, I do get the feeling Murray identifies as Scottish than British which I don't have any problem with.

I support him because he's British.
Scots are OK to me, but I dislike them for disliking the english.

You're right. I have Scottish relatives. Plus I've just been there and met some lovely people (plus an awkward drunk - funny I've only ever come across them in Scotland, never England).

I don't remember saying that, probably said we'll get top 4 which we did. Anyway it's not the football thread.

Just surprised, figured you'd want another excuse to get the flags out.

Scottish, so British (for now at least.)

I wouldn't mind if Murray won, I like how he is with fans, though I don't like the drama that seems to follow him and that he seems to be so miserable all the time. Probs why I'm swinging a bit more towards Federer. Though tbh I've been put off the men's game so most likely won't even end up watching it.

On a side issue, how come the women get the same money for doing less work?
I'm strongly pro equality and 5 sets for all is equality. I find it difficult to believe they're not physically up to it. Women seem to manage the same distance in a marathon (in nearly the same time as men).

I dont like the term 'British' so i see him a Scottish same as i call myself English. Calling him British is the same as calling him European imo.

I want Federer to purely for sentimental reasons so he will win the most championships ever. I'm sure Murray will get ghis chance in the future.

The game itself is (was) behind the times with regards to gender equality as the womens game became professional later than the mens game. Still think it's a predominantly middle class sport like Cricket and seems to have the same negatives culturally like cricket and other sports do i.e old fashioned views.
Women used to get less prize money but they changed it 10 or so yrs ago so they got the same as men (& rightly so) however they kept the best of 3 sets rule which is a bit stupid tbh.

Is it just Wimbledon that's equal?
They should start doing some five-setters in in the smaller ones and then gradually introduce them to the more 'important' competitions.

I suppose it's not an easy thing to change as they play that format right from junior level.

You are right. They should play 5sets and it's bullshit that they don't. It harms women's tennis because how many people actually look forward to women's match? (unless it's Sharapova playing Ivanovich, am I right lads? Wink wink nudge nudge...) It's a sideshow in real terms (apart from the US open where the women's final is watched by more than the men's) Playing 3sets also allows the top female players to play the doubles and mixed doubles which enhances their earnings.

^ Wouldn't playing 3 sets also in a way make it easier for the players with more natural ability to progress further. Sounds obvious but i mean with the mens game things like endurance and stamina will play a bigger part of the game (and who wins) compared to the womens game.
Although you could argue women play longer rallies overall their overall court time is much less than the mens.
