Re: Inspirational quotes/sayings etc
“The more you talk about it, rehash it, rethink it, cross analyze it, debate it, respond to it, get paranoid about it, compete with it, complain about it, immortalize it, cry over it, kick it, defame it, stalk it, gossip about it, pray over it, put it down or dissect its motives it continues to rot in your brain. It is dead. It is over. It is gone. It is done. It is time to bury it because it is smelling up your life and no one wants to be near your rotted corpse of memories and decaying attitude. Be the funeral director of your life and bury that thing!”

'Do you know the difference between me and you?
Me: Happy. Happy. Happy. Dead. You: Worry. Worry. Worry. Dead.' - McWatt in 2019 miniseries of Catch 22 (but not in the book that I can find...) |

You earn a living to live well, not to kill yourself with stress -Sadhguru.
I like this quote. It's two parts. One part showing why you are earning a living- to live well. The second part, saying it's got to be the right job. |

wow sorry, Percy. It feel strange replying to a post from last year, I've just seen it now. According to Google, both Daniel J. Boorstin and Stephen Hawking said the same thing. And yes, in my opinion, it's the most underrated quote ever. |

Its encouraging to think that your best days are yet to be lived.
I saw that on a billboard outside a flower shop in ny town. |

“One must learn to look away from oneself in order to see much: this hardness is necessary to every climber of mountains” (Nietzsche, The Wanderer).
(I haven't read this, just saw the quote somewhere and liked it). |

Re: Inspirational quotes/sayings etc
“And good neighbours make a huge difference in the quality of life. I agree.” — Robert Fulghum
Not inspirational but true. It's kind of ironic this modern society I think we notice our physical needs but not fully our mind and emotional needs. A modern urban area would comprise of apartments, much nicer version of mid century brutalist flats, which isn't the best environment to nurture the best neighbour as it enables annonymousity and for someone shy like me is too densely populated to allow us to just be open outside the apartment on our local street maybe. Or shared houses which I imagine invade on privacy which doesn't always nurture the best housemates. So maybe certain needs also need to be met to enable someone to be a good neighbour. |

Re: Inspirational quotes/sayings etc
Quote:
@SinlowMusic 5 days ago (edited) Depressing Story Time: From 2018 - 2022 I was stationed in Iwakuni, Japan in the US Marines. One of my side-quests was being a Finance nerd off to the side for the unit (yes, we do math in the Marines sometimes). I befriended the civilian comptroller (finance boss) Mr. Fujita a kind 50-year-old Japanese dude. He would get so happy when he saw me. Always telling me about fishing trips and inviting me. One day he heard I was leaving back to the US. He was visibly sad. He began to tell me about how he used to live in New York and California. But he purposely overstayed his VISA. Because of that, he was barred from re-entry. He began to tell me how boring life was in Japan and how the culture made him feel dead inside. The last time he felt alive was 25 years ago, when he was a 25 year old in the US studying. I think about him all the time when people try gloating about how "perfect" Japan is. Honestly, after this video, I think I need to find his email again and reach out. I feel like a POS for not doing so at the time and only thinking about it now. I was caught up in my own world. Something as basic as "Hey man, let's keep in touch" would have gone a long way. Men struggle a lot in Japan and it can be rough. That said, if any Japanese homies need a friend or contact when visiting SoCal (California), message me here or on Instagram (@sinlow_music just shoot me a message) & I'll 1000% be your tour guide. Be safe and remember the grass isn't greener on the other side. It's green where you water it. |
