Default Do you talk to your pets?

Hi,

I am sure my neighbour thinks I am mad. I didn't realise she was in her garden, and my dog ran to get her ball to play and I said to her in a sort of silly voice that I use to talk to my dog and said 'Jessie, we can't play with your ball now. We will be going for a walk in a minute' - sort of in a silly voice that she responds to - I then heard my neighbour move around, and I realised that I have never heard her talk to her dog and wondered if people think it is a bit odd.

I regularly talk to my two cats and rub their tummy and say things like 'You are a lovely boy, have you been out hunting, have you, lovely boy' in a sort of voice that you would probably speak to a baby in, or more likely a complete simpleton . All the pets seem to respond to it. They know my voice and they are so sweet. I don't even think of them as animals any more -am I crazy? When I am getting their food ready I tell them that today they are having tuna or whatever! I even talk to the hamster and say 'it is lovely to see you'.

Am I bonkers! :cra zy:

I think it's totally normal, but then again I walk around talking to mice sitting on my shoulder. My old hamster, Honest Frank, likes a chat when I clean him out on a Friday too

Yes not by choice lol, if I want them to hurry and wee I do, they take about 10 mins to decide where they are going.

I talk to all animals. I don't have pets myself but I talk to my mum's cats, the animals at the farm I volunteer at, even just pigeons and squirrels that I see. I completely lose my social anxiety when I'm with animals!

hehe, you don't sound bonkers, you sound like you love you animals

I imagine most people talk to their pets. I always talked to my cats and my mother does too. When cats look up at me with a pleading expression I'm always saying 'what do you want? you want some ham?' and then they recognise the word ham and get all excited

Was Honest Frank the hamster you bought after your dad died, and you said on a previous post that you thought it was an upgrade? Sorry if I got that wrong, but I laughed my socks off at that post

Yeah of course, I do the same. I talk to all animals. hehe I don't personally know any pet owners who don't talk to their cats and dogs so I think it's normal. Even my neighbours speak to my dog in the same way when I bump into them in the back garden.

Of course, whenever I see my dog I say 'what up sexy?' and especially when we boogie around the house together.
My mums forever talking to her to, just seems normal as I used to do it with our first dog too.

Yes I do. One of my guinea pigs is always chewing things so I frequently tell her off in a stern voice and tell her she is being naughty

Aww thanks (well on her behalf). She was the cutest little dog ever, in my biased opinion (she died a couple of months ago ).

I am in agreement on the goldfish front. They just don't seem to 'give' much. We have chickens and no matter how hard I try to engage them in conversation they just don't seem that bothered - I just can't take the rejection anymore

Yep, used to talk to my cat. Nice thing about talking to animals is that they don't judge you.

Nope. I nicked it off the internet somewhere. I haven't got round to talking any pictures yet. I am a bit of a procrastinator but then they are hopeless at sitting still for even a second so the most I will ever get is a blurry ball of fluff running off.

I don't know about that Tecumseh - my dog gives me some pretty hacked off looks if I feed the cats first

Yes i talk to our dog, and guinea pigs. I think it's completely normal!
I have also found myself talking to wild animals though, i was out for a walk in the woods with our dog and we saw a deer. I automatically said, 'hello deer' then felt a bit silly incase anyone had heard me

That is one cool name for a hamster

Yeah, I talk to my cat. We also have a beetle in the bathroom called Albert, but no one talks to him I'm feeling guilty now.

Oh yes all the time, I also talk to nice bits of furniture, the microwave, cuddly toys and even the car (call her Feisty the Fiesta when we're playing our favourite game "tailgate or forfeit"). I also talk to myself, and enjoy making indecorous noises in solemn places when no-one is about.

Don't worry about not talking to Albert Dounia. We don't talk to Brian our spider either. I think insects prefer to be ignored.

Yes I'm forever saying 'good girl', 'my babies' or 'come on darling' etc.

Every time I come back home I do a purr to say hello and smooch them all which they probably find annoying but what do they expect being so cute?

Ah, that is so sweet. I agree, they are there to be adored!
