Cringe memories
God I hate it when one of those really cringey memories/cringeyiest moments in your life (you know where you made an absolute tit of yourself) pops into your head out of nowhere its the worst! Wish there was some way to completely erase these memories to stop this happening haha
I could be having a great day then this happens and its the absolute worst |

Re: Cringe memories
I get these all the time. It makes me feel pretty risk-averse knowing that if I manage to make a prize tit of myself, even if only in my own head, it may very well haunt me for literally the rest of my life.

Re: Cringe memories
I've had a few of these recently. When I was young, I would get them ALL the time, often about what now seem like minor things. It was horrible. Being a teenager is difficult when you are that sensitive to embarrassment. I also think the fear of making more cringy memories really hampered me in the workplace.

Re: Cringe memories
It is indeed the worst. Sometimes it can be things from years ago, some embarrassing incident from when I was like 13. Yet the brain enjoys making you relive it in great detail

Re: Cringe memories
For all my faults this is something i rarely (if ever) put myself through. Probably because of age.

Re: Cringe memories
Everyone has cringe-inducing memories (I know I do - and even more so since I've gained more understanding of social conventions and then review things I did earlier in my life) but try to remember that, whatever it is, it doesn't live as long in the memory of others as it does in your own; the chances are, that you're punishing yourself for something which has been long-forgotten (if it was even noticed in the first place) by everyone else.
Those memories which do persist can usually become funny moments (once the initial embarrassment / offence / outrage has passed), which you can turn to your advantage by recounting with "Do you remember the time I did / said ...". If they don't become anecdotes, then at least they can be learning opportunities. |

Re: Cringe memories
I actually like relieving those moments. Laughing at myself to myself tends to break the ice.

Re: Cringe memories
^^I don't think it's either. I think it's just biology. I think we are wired for shame to kick in hard at that age. It's probably all part of learning to be a social animal and learning how to work with the group. Once that job is done, that system calms down.
