Default Which is your favorite decade for music

I like music from all inc pre 1940's but 1980's rule for me though i love 1979 because it gave us the ska comeback and introduced new wave and synth which was the core of the 80's.

Conversely, I picked 90s but I like 80s as well! And 60s. Lots to like from every decade! Apart from the 30s. Maybe.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a massive clean fest in the house and I set youtube to play pet shop boys videos whilst I was cleaning. I hate cleaning, but 3 hours later, I was still cleaning and singing at the top of my lungs. I even broke off for 5 mins when "Go west" came on, so that I could have a wee march around the living room with the cats

I did the same thing last weekend with wham, and again, I had a ball! Can't believe I STILL know all of those songs word for word.

I've downloaded heaps of 80s songs for my ipod at the moment - Pet Shop Boys, Wham, Terence Trent D'Arby, Stevie Wonder, Phil Collins, Bobby Brown, Billy Ocean, Pepsi and Shirley, Spandau Ballet, Hue and Cry, and Johnny Hates Jazz The cheesier the better tbh!

80's all the way!

Depends. Alt-rock is my thing, and my favourite decade for that was 1983-1992. Also have a soft spot for the 60s (The Beatles, Dylan) if I could only listen to artists everyone knows.

Definitely early 80s for me- my lost youth is calling me back. Found my Duran Duran scrapbook t'other day. It's a bit embarassing. Probably my favourite album of all time is Climate of Hunter by Scott Walker and that came out in the mid 80s so case closed. And it had Billy Ocean on backing vocals.

1970s, I love the funk and groove of 70's music I listen to.

At the moment 2010s comes second lol.

Like someone else said, there is something to like about each decade.

1990s, but that's probably because I have an emotional connection to most of the music I grew up listening to.

Either the 60's or 70's. I like them all to be honest, right up to the present, but I'd say these two decades stand out the most, and not because of the Beatles.

They're incredibly overrated in my opinion.

I love music from every decade, but the 90's would be my favourite - most of my favourite bands were active then, and a lot of my favourite albums/songs are from that decade.

I also have a keen interest in 1920s/1930s blues, folk, country and vocal jazz music

Hey stoopkid you could always do a similar poll but as a multiple choice now you know how to do polls, something like what decades of music do you enjoy listening to, i'm sure the 50's would get quite a few votes then
You could do it in the lounge and open it up to all age groups to just to be a little different

^ 1950's would defo be my second choice as well as who i mentioned earlier i could easily add everly brothers, buddy holly, marty wilde, bobby vee, duane eddy, johnny and the huricanes, gene vincent, eddy cochran, sam cooke, craig douglas, plus loads of one hit wonders (or a few hits) tommy edwards, kalin twins or even jim dale who would later go on to gain fame in the carry on films. 1960's 3rd, 1990's 4th, 1970's 5th would round up my top 5

I'll have to vote for the 60's. I was just a kid at the time and didn't appreciate or understand the music.

But in hindsight the music from that decade was not only good from a musical standpoint, it was also political: anti-war, anti-bigotry, anti-oppression.

I voted for the 80s. Really like a lot of the alternative rock from this decade, like The Smiths, REM. Even the pop music in the 1980s was quite decent, unlike the vulgar pop music today.

But I'm a big fan of 90s music as well. Blur, Radiohead, and lots of other decent British bands, and loads of good stuff from other genres which I don't have time to list lol.

The current decade. The internet means it's never been easier to discover new stuff and broaden your taste, and I think the internet has made music itself more diverse because of that spread of ideas and because anyone can put their work online. People who think contemporary music is awful haven't been looking hard enough. I love the feeling of anticipating an album's release date, buying it as soon as it comes out and then listening through for the first time. I like a lot of music from the past too, but it's different when a band is still releasing new tracks and you could go see it performed (though with the SA, that's rare for me).

So I'm going with post-2010s. But I also listen to an equal amount from the 90s and 2000s, and some from the 80s. I tend to think of music more in terms of genres than decades.

I was a teenager of the 90's but, looking back, I'm actually not too fond of the music I used to listen to. As I've gotten older and my music knowledge has expanded a lot of the 90's britpop etc sounds very derivative and a bit embarrassing. I prefer 60's and earlier.

1920/30/40's music. This was the heyday of fabulous songs.

Why endure the downbeat angst so prevalent in modern-day popular music, when you could bask in the fun and sunshine of the music of this period? The lyrics are romantic and upbeat. This, combined with melodies you simply can't get out of your head, transform your house into a whirl of pleasure and real joy. It's impossible to feel 'down' with so much positive emotion being triggered by this music.

I really think that one day the music industry will twig that people have enough pain, anguish and stress in their lives, and they really don't need any further encouragement in this direction from them.

They'll review the music of this 20's to 40's period and it will become their creative inspiration. Only then will popular music regain it's rightful place as a really positive force in western culture.

Want to find out what I'm talking about? Go online to the National Trust Shop and take a look at the CD 'Forties Favourites'.

I was a raver so the early 90's was a great time for me-up all night on the whizz and weed during the day..(not condoning it) and I've still got the tunes on my phone and everytime I hear the same old skool/hardcore/trance music from back then,I take myself back and "skank out" right there and then.Brilliant memories for me.

I've struggled to answer this, 80's I love, 90's I was a teenager/young adult.
I love a lot of 60's, but I also like a lot of jazz/blues from 40/50/60's.

I went with 90's in the end as it is attached to some good memories.
