Default Cleethorpes

Hi
I've recently been thinking of moving to somewhere coastal and have been looking on the net at Cleethorpes. Does anyone know this area and have something good or bad to say about it?

I haven't been there for years but my impression of it was a sort of low rent Blackpool. Of course that might be exactly what you're looking for!

I've been to Cleethorpes once and remember it had a nice sandy beach.

Cleethorpes indeed has a nice, long beach. But the place itself is like some kind of savage, chav civilisation. It reminds me of the mental images I used to get when thinking of Westerns as a child. Only it's in England, constantly has chavs racing up and down the street in souped-up purple hatchbacks and has fish and chips where the fish is served in breadcrumbs. It's like a Cro-Magnon Rhyl.

I'm glad it exists but I wouldn't want to live there.

Maybe the above post was slightly negative. It's an interesting place, kind of like time always stood still there. And it feels 'raw'.

And it's fairly close to Hull...

(...bonus!! )

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll go there for a few days and have a look at the area. It's the walk along the front that I will look forward to Aidan, I always feel much calmer near the sea. I'm not interested in night life but I like to be fairly near some decent places for shopping, maybe Grimsby or Hull would provide that.

what people want varies from person to person so much. Why not specify what facilities you want and what things you want to avoid? then we can specify where we think you'll find it!
