Default Having a bit of a wobble today

So, I start my new job tomorrow.

I'm getting picked up by a stranger at noon and we're travelling to the site where I'm going to be the defacto team leader over two people who have never done the job before.

I have to speak to the manager when I'm there and get things set up with them and get them to print off some forms that I need to fill in.

I also have to speak with my office boss about the travelling direct to another site afterwards regarding sleep time.

My anxiety is manageable these days but this is a lot to deal with in a short amount of time and I can already feel the anxiety creeping in the day before haha!

Going to try to do some managing techniques today and hope they work.

Hope it goes well MissKatie!

Try not to put too much pressure on yourself - even if you do feel a bit anxious, you'll be okay. I try to aim to do things not 'anxiety free' but 'despite anxiety' and it tends to help.

Feeling apprehensive is really understandable. I find the first days are always the toughest, then things start to get somewhat easier. And doing some managing techniques sounds very sensible to me.

All the best. Miss Katie. I don't think it's expected that anyone on their first day in a job will be anxiety-free, and Appear's advice above seems very good.

MissKatie, you're a strong and capable person (that's why you got the job in the first place) and we all know that you'll manage your anxiety and not only come through this, but come through it well. As Appear and Aelwyn have said already, being anxiety-free is a myth (I think you know this already) and it's all about being able to manage it (I hope your techniques will prove effective) and being in control of the anxiety instead of it being in control of you.

In short: You Got This.

Hope you have a welcoming and great first day tomorrow, Miss Katie. I guess it helps that you're the most experienced person and will be supporting the people who haven't got a scooby. They'll be feeling really nervous too as they don't know what they're doing, so I think you will be really kind and helpful and putting them at ease will put you at ease as well.

Also I get so nervous picking people up that I don't know, so the driver will also be a bit nervous too. I find it helpful to tell others I'm a bit nervous.

That's great advice, Appear. That also works for me - to accept the anxiety as being a part of new experiences and have some little phrases to say to myself about what a good opportunity it is etc.

Thanks everyone

Under a bit of a cold sweat today rather than anxiety being sky high. A sense of utter dread rather than panic haha

I just have to remind myself that it's just two shifts I have to run and if it's shit, then it's shit for just two shifts.

It's always so frustrating as I would jump at team leading the systems side of things (the computer based side) as I'm extremely confident in what I do there.

This involves dealing with managers, builders, electricians, fixers, fitters and every other thing you can think of that ends in "ers" haha

But I'll take cold dread over heart racing any day. Dread feels awful but panic is hard to get under control for me.

Did it bishes! Aren't I great? Haha
Wasn't too bad. Both workers were good and reliable so made my life easy.

The manager I had to deal with was a nice normal human been who was proud of his daughter who is studying medicine in university and I may have played off that haha

Upon arriving back at my hotel, saw an old coworker whose number I lost and was so happy to see her

Thanks all again

New jobs are always so stressful and it's definitely down to my co-workers being normal human beans, but I just slotted right in.

I genuinely felt these last two days that I could run jobs all the while going forward. This'll fade but yeah, how good is that?
