I think they got lazy when naming Owls.

"oh look, there's an undiscovered Owl! What shall we call it?"

"Where does it live?"

"In a Barn".

"Done. Barn Owl."

It could be, but it isn't.

Is there a decent abbreviation for the word 'unfortunately'? I use them for words that i have trouble with spelling and always have to go back and correct how i spelt it e.g because > cos.

I can't think of one, but you could try using the word 'alas' instead.

I got a question.... Has anyone noticed in a phone conversation that you talk louder and faster when saying your goodbye's?

The whole conversation I'm talking normally, nice pace and in a relaxed tone, but when it come's to wrapping up the conversation I talk faster and louder.
Example....

"oK, I'm just on my way to the station now... SO YEAH, TALK TO YOU SOON MATE, SEE YOU LATER!"

Anyone? lol

On SAUK, only Admins can change usernames. It's probably the same on most other forums.

I was going to ask the very same question. We've been plagued by these recently.

Otherwise I'm calling law-abiding life quits and hunting these fckers down.
Register with the Telephone Preference Service. It's free and makes it illegal for them to call you. I'm registered and never get such calls anymore. Takes 28 days to become active. http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/tps/index.html

Now when I get those phone calls I say, "I'm with the Telephone Preference Service, which means you're contacting me illegally. Please could you inform your supervisor of this." They hang up sharpish, full of apologies, bless them.

"Shortbread is so named because of its crumbly texture (from an old meaning of the word short). The cause of this texture is its high fat content, provided by the butter. The short or crumbly texture is a result of the fact that the fat inhibits the formation of long protein (gluten) strands. The related word "shortening" refers to any fat that may be added to produce a short (crumbly) texture."

Any sort of "short" biscuit or "short" dough is one which crumbles easily and is usually quite delicate (ie when you're done baking and pick it up it might fall apart ) . So you can get short pastry (usually called shortcrust, it's what you might use for quiches and the like) and all sorts of short biscuits.

edit: lol, beaten to it.

what did Buddha mean when he said there is walking, but no walker inside, that there is no self?
he said that it's like musical notes, that die when the music stops, they only come from the instrument, so when we stop doing anything, we cease to exist

did he mean that we are basically empty inside, and there is no "me" or "I" ?

does anyone actually get any of this, or is it always just that it sounds like a good idea ?

Buddhism has a big interest and following far and near, but I get the feeling that no-one has really penetrated into this "truth"

Sounds quite straightforward to me. He just means theres no seperate entity which is independant of what we see as ourselves i.e. body & mind and that these are just deterministic functions like any others is nature.

if it is brand new its probably a scam.

if it is second hand then that might explain the price difference.

Don't you think that toilets are underrated?

People don't give them a lot of thought!
You go there, do your deposit and come out.
BTW who invented the toilet?
