Moving from ESA to work
Hi I***8217;ve been on esa for longer than I care to remember. SA was a reason for it plus other mental problems but the main one was alcohol dependence. However, my drinking is now not a problem for me after a long battle and I would like to try to work to advance my life. I have done some volunteering but it never led anywhere. I am happy for a basic job not anything fancy and now I have no parents to rely on I feel like I should ***8216;grow up and become a man***8217; if you get me. Plus someone I***8217;ve been ***8216;going out with***8217; for a while wants me to get a job, not to get money off me, far from it, they are just looking out for me. They think it will be good for me and give me self worth. So do you think this is a good idea or not? I***8217;ve applied for some jobs online waiting to hear back. I am thinking of going into the job centre and saying I would like to try work if I can though I***8217;m on esa and can they help me. Is that a good idea? I don***8217;t want them to just think I***8217;m alright now and throw me off esa because I don***8217;t know if I***8217;ll be alright or not.

Re: Moving from ESA to work
You're allowed to do 'permitted work' while on ESA, although it is restricted to less than 16 hours a week and/or less than £120 I believe. You could ask your advisor at the job centre about that, try something part time first and if you get on ok with that then move from ESA to more full time work.

Thanks, I***8217;ve just managed to land myself a full time job despite only job searching for the weekend! I hope I do good.
