Hoarding
Does anyone else find it hard to get rid if stuff? I find this really difficult. I have bags and boxes full of stuff I can't part with and I don't really know why but I feel upset to throw it away. Last year I managed to take a few bags of clothes to charity but I found it really difficult and I had to take pictures of them. I get very attached to things and sentimental and hang on to things like receipts and food packaging too. I feel bad because my mums attic is full of my stuff and she wants to tidy the room as it was converted into a bedroom but is too full of my things. I cant go round at the moment but when we are allowed I said I would sort it out but dont know how I'm going to do it.

Re: Hoarding
Sounds daunting, but if you've ever seen those hoarding programmes they have a keep pile and a throw pile. Keep whatever makes you happy, obviously but also really think if you actually need it. Receipts wouldn't take up much space so that could be ok.
I'm going to get rid of a few things on facebook marketplace soon. Some for sale, some for free. The hardest part is just taking some decent pictures because my house is a dump. |

Re: Hoarding
Thanks, its really difficult and I have seen those hoarding programs on tv, it's nothing like that but I sometimes worry it could get worse. I'm going to try and sort a little bit out whenim able to go round to my parents house. I was just feeling quite anxious about it the other day.

Re: Hoarding
My dads a right hoarder, we now have 3 sheds packed in the back garden because he wont throw anything "just incase"
It took me about 2 months of nagging to get a skip here the other week, hes thrown enough (well I've thrown enough) to fill a 6 yard skip and hes still got 3 full sheds (and the back of the garage) I used to hoard cables in the same sense, I had about 50 of every type of USB cable "just incase"..loads of PC parts, 20 year old video cards..all "just incase" Couple of years ago I got fed up, went a bit ruthless and binned loads..then spent the following years rebuying some bits I actually needed but no longer owned after binning the lot |

Re: Hoarding
Yes i used to hoard things, i think it was for sentimental reasons and scared to throw stuff out but since the lockdown i've really had a good sort out on what to throw out and have about six bags of clothes ready to take to the charity shop when it opens due to clothes not fitting any longer and been hoarding them for many many years opps only downside now i need to buy a few clothes that fit me... i had to sort the loft out aswell and had about 8 bags of rubbish to take to the tip which had nearly 2 hour wait in the queue for but had to be done... i do find it hard to throw stuff out but getting abit better with it all

Re: Hoarding
I'm a legendary hoarder. I get attached to stuff and can't let it go sadly. My mum is the same, you get emotionally attached to the things you own.

Re: Hoarding
I hate getting rid of things, I have hundreds of books, my son has all the PC games he ever bought.
My OH hoards cables, pc bit's and pieces and other electronics. I know I'd feel better with a nice tidy house, free of clutter but also know it will never happen |
