Negotiated with fire chief dude
Went for a hike on Sunday with my brother.... someone had set my hill (also known as Winter Hill) on fire and there were 9 fire engines, mountain rescue, police, etc. all there trying to put it out. Unfortunately this threatened to overshadow my walk but thankfully I spotted a path that went across the moor and only came near the burnt area at one point, but was still about 10 metres away. We stopped and surveyed the scene, and my usual instinct came to the fore, which was to turn around and go back. But "no!" I thought, "I shall try anyway!". So I approached the command trailer thing, bare-chested (hard for me as I have BDD), and spoke to the Fire Scene Commander in front of about ten firemen and four policemen, telling him that I knew the path like the back of my hand, etc, etc (technically I'd only been down it once before, and had got lost ) and could we go across anyway. He raised the odd argument, but I countered every one, and eventually he agreed that we could go across. So I was assertive, in front of many people, semi-naked, and it paid off. A small victory for me.

Well done G-1
I've often thought of going up Winter Hill with my dogs. It's not far from where I am. |
