Hmmmm. I think the test is a bit questionable, but it is a very widely used one. In many journals and papers on social anxiety researchers use it.

I don't know how much your score really says though. I scored 100 but don't see myself as hopelessly under the control of social anxiety. I can live my life, get along okay.

I sent this out to university students as part of my dissertation.

So far I've recieved 25 back. Their average score (mean) is 44, and they've all scored between 21-87.

So there are some people with scores in the "high SA" category and they probably don't even know they have SA (or maybe not even heard of it)! Don't think it would be ethical of me to reply saying "you have SA" though!

Does that mean ask someone out? Or picking someone up to go somewhere? Or what? I presumed it meant the first one but not quite sure.
Also, does taking a test having anything to do specifically with SA? I see it as more general anxiety.

68, though I'm a lot better than I used to be. Some of the questions are vague, or just don't apply (do I avoid parties? I don't know, I don't get invited to them!). I dread to think what I'd have got if I'd taken the test a year or two ago.

I think probably, actually, the varst majority of SA/SP sufferers don't know they have it and probably don't even know it exists.

Meh...could be worse, could be better. I used the Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN) for my proj...though barely anyone got proper sa scores...hmph! Mind you, they did actually have to come into a room with a lot of other people taking the test too, so I guess if you were that sa, you probably wouldn't feel comfortable with doing that.

I actually liked all the questions in this test. I thought they were all relevant.

The only problem I had with this test (but it's a big one!), is that it depends how you interprete "moderate", "severe", etc. One persons' moderate might be another persons' severe, and vice versa. I had a lot of "severes" in my answers, because to me, SA is the nastiest experience I've ever felt. But I may be better or worse in comparison to someone else.

i scored 112-the test is obviously based around being med free-with meds i probably would be -112..sa is a cancer it will spread to all the areas mentioned,fear of people is fear of people so y do we all expect to score low?all the questions are people based and interacting which we are all avoidant off.

I showed the test to my psychiatrist yesterday, he said it's pretty much utter rubbish - flawed and outdated. People seem to be taking their scores as a serious indication of their progress. Don't!
