Re: Inspirational quotes/sayings etc
My counsellor gave me this to read for various reasons. I have read it somewhere before but had forgotten it. Kind of sums up my sa journey (hopefully including the end bit too with a bit more work!).
***8220;I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. I am lost... I am helpless. It isn't my fault. It takes forever to find a way out. I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don't see it. I fall in again. I can't believe I am in the same place. But, it isn't my fault. It still takes me a long time to get out. I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it is there. I still fall in. It's a habit. My eyes are open. I know where I am. It is my fault. I get out immediately. I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it. I walk down another street.***8221; |

" what other people think of you is none of your business"
Very true and one I need to tell myself constantly because what other people think of me is something I'm concerned with pretty much all the time. The truth is they probably don't think about me at all , it's just that I'm sure that if and when they do its all negative, and that really gets to me. |

"We spend our whole lives trying to get to a certain place or acquire certain things so that we may be happy. But true happiness is when you realise you are never going to get to that place or that even when you do you will still be dreaming of a new place or new things. So happiness has to start now, with what we have."

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in that grey twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat. - Theodore Roosevelt

If you have absolute and wholehearted belief in yourself, NOTHING and NOBODY can ever hurt you.
Look in the mirror and tell yourself with absolute conviction that you are a worthwhile person, you are truly loved, you are unique, you have total health, you have inner peace, you are free, you will achieve all the things you want. Do it everyday. X |

“We human beings are social
beings. We come into the world as the result of others’ actions. We survive here in dependence on others. Whether we like it or not, there is hardly a moment of our lives when we do not benefit from others’ activities. For this reason, it is hardly surprising that most of our happiness arises in the context of our relationships with others.” ~Dalai Lama~ |

The one quotation that has always stayed with me came from a former karate Sensei of mine, "Even monkeys fall from trees"! In other words, it doesn't matter how "expert" the expert is, they'll always be suceptible to making mistakes!

Re: Inspirational quotes/sayings etc
This is an excerpt from an article I read online about crushes
... the facts of life have deformed all of our natures. No one among us has come through unscathed. There is too much fear: mortality, loss, dependency, abandonment, ruin, humiliation, subjection. We are, all of us, desperately fragile, ill-equipped to meet with the challenges to our mental integrity: we lack courage, preparation, confidence, intelligence. We don't have the right role models, we were (necessarily) imperfectly parented, we fight rather than explain, we nag rather than teach, we fret instead of analysing our worries, we have a precarious sense of security, we can't understand either ourselves or others well enough, we don't have an appetite for the truth and suffer a fatal weakness for flattering denials. The facts of a perfectly good human emerging from the facts of life are non-existant. I'm not sure how inspirational this is ... but it is about understanding and forgiving which is inspirational, so yeah |
