D'you think it's okay to use some out of date (feb '20) medicated shampoo?

It's one of those coal tar jobbies, for psoriasis, etc. It's been used twice, i think. Pretty much a full bottle.

Does anyone else feel like being anxious and feeling a bit low might actually be your baseline mood?

^ I know, right. I know what you're saying, there are days where I wake up feeling ok, and then my mind gets confused by it and tries to search my mind for stuff, anything, to be anxious about. But when that happens I try to divert my mind's attention like "no I'm not listening now lalalalala"

Has anyone here had an assessment with a rheumatologist before? I've been referred to them as I have a suspected autoimmune disease but I'm really anxious about the actual appointment. Looking it up says it involves them fully checking my eyes, mouth, joints, heart, having even more blood tests, x-rays and even leading to an MRI. I'm kinda freaking out not knowing much.

Hi Blancmange,

Yes, been there, done that.

My first appointment was really just going through my medical history and symptoms with a bit of prodding and poking. It was after that I had a whole battery of blood tests but it was only one needle so not too bad. I already had an X-ray on file and I didn't find that troublesome when they did it.

With me it didn't happen all at once so it wasn't too overwhelming. There were quite a few appointments with tests inbetween. I didn't get an MRI but I did have ultrasonics which was a bit messy.

The doctor made his diagnosis in the first ten minutes, I could tell, but he had to prove it through all the tests.

After all that I was offered some drugs that calm down my immune system but then Covid hit and I wanted my immune system to be at full strength so I am waiting until things calm down a bit on that front. I am double jabbed so that worry has passed.

I am told the drugs work quite well but I may need regular blood tests to make sure my liver functions remains good.

It was much more daunting in anticipation than the actual appointments.

Crossed fingers that you don't have an autoimmune disease and I hope it all goes well.

Thank you for replying Sisyphus, it's great to hear from someone who has gone through it, and your post has reassured me a little (for now )
Do you mind me asking what it was you were diagnosed with? Of course I understand if that's too private.

Thank you again and I hope things are on track for you now

Hi Blancmange,

Mine is psoriatic arthritis. I didn't even know it was a thing until I went to the rheumatologist, nor did I realise that I had psoriasis. (Quite what I thought all the scabs were, I don't know. (Neither did my doctor so I'll let myself off.))

Just take it one appointment at a time and it won't seem so daunting.

Good luck.

Found it...

Happened upon it through wiki: List of highest-attended concerts > free concerts > Jean-Michel Jarre > then listened to some of the samples

Quite happy now.

Ah okay, I did see that in the list of possibilities. My only 'symptoms' currently are brain fog and fatigue but I've always just put that down to being me, and depressed.
Thanks, will try to

Mine have just started speeding up again, but they've been slow all through lockdown. I don't have much through the post, but I sent a birthday card from Scotland on Tuesday morning which arrived in Derbyshire on Wednesday, then the box of lateral flow tests I ordered on Friday arrived on Saturday.

If you're worried about your birthday cards arriving, you still have more than a month!

Please could someone put my mind at rest, I like to be prepared for the unknown and was wondering what happens at your first appointment when you register as a new NHS patient.

^ I'm never likely to find out! I'm still trying to get registered.

I believe that they usually do a bit of an MOT: blood pressure, blood tests, that sort of thing.

^^ it's slightly different in different places and on your age and health. If you check their website it should let you know in the section about joining/registering.

At mine they ask for you to complete a health questionnaire and want some wee!

^^^ When I last registered they checked my blood pressure I think, and they gave me a little container to collect a urine sample in and bring back but I never did that and they still registered me! Oh and I think they just have a general chat about any medications your on and any ongoing health issues. (oh hang on, I just reread your post, are you asking about a GPs surgery or a dentist's surgery? Lol)

Don't go taking a cup of piss along with you to the dentist, newbs!

^ dental surgeries love a questionnaire. I have to fill in two each time I go.

They usually want to know your docs name, any medical conditions, which medication you are on, brief medical history, lifestyle habits e.g. how much a person smokes, drinks alcohol etc.

It's usually a simple tick sheet.

They'll offer you a check up appointment and possibly an X-ray.
