^ Not tonight

Feel like I'm going crackers. Wish I could sleep for 6 months and hopefully when I wake up things are back to how they were last year. Never thought I'd say that!

Btw, why is SAUK so quiet these days
It's starting to feel rather lonely here

I can't sleep, mainly because there is a fast eight legged creature running around on my ceiling
I wish I wasn't so pathetic with them.

No reason, just my brain won't do what I want it to do.
Stupid brain.

Yet again
Looks like sleep just isn't an option tonight. Heck knows why, I'm certainly physically tired but my brain is leaping around the room like it's doing parkour. I just want to be unconscious for a few hours so I don't feel like a George Romero extra tomorrow.

I've always had trouble sleeping... It can get really annoying. Particularly when you are up all night alone with no-one to talk to.

Mirtazepine seems to knock me out within a few hours.

Looking on the bright side, I put some stewed apple into bags to cool down before it went into the freezer and forgot to put them in last night.

My mind is all over the place so I have taken a bit of a sleep aid and that may help shut it up a bit.

^ I hope you've managed to get some sleep by now, Sisyphus - and that the apples are freezing nicely.

I can't switch off tonight. I got some messages from my ex-partner soon after I arrived where I'm staying tonight and I think they've unsettled me. I'm supposed to be going on a decent hike tomorrow (although the weather seems to have other ideas about that - right now, the rain is relentless and the wind is howling, which is set to continue until mid-afternoon), so I could do with getting at least some sleep.

If anyone else is awake and wishes that they weren't, I hope you manage to sleep soon too.

^ Yes, thanks gregarious_introvert, I don't like using pills but if I wake very early I can take them and not feel too much of a zombie in the morning. I did sleep quite late and it was a struggle to get up but at least I am not tired.

I hope you got some sleep before your hike. I have found as long as you have the right kit then the weather usually isn't too much to worry about. I hear the guy who invented Gore-Tex has just died.

^ I didn't have the right kit, because I had no room for my poles in my luggage! I got three hours, thanks, which was enough - and walked ten miles instead of the planned twenty (but had another, unscheduled eight miles later in the day), largely because strong winds were threatening to blow me over a cliff!

I'm glad you got your rest.

^ I hope you got that sneeze out eventually B!

I am currently being kept awake by the big band jazz orchestra that lives in my mind, and plays in my brain to torment me with those horrible harmonies that never resolve themselves.
No joke, it's a full-on saxophone battle in my all too conscious mind right now.
Please make it stop.

^ hope you have had subsequent sleep filled nights. In answer to your question, I don't even know if that particular sneeze ever came out. I've sneezed since though haha

I can't sleep because my feet and hands feel so chilly. I've got a blanket on my bed. The heating is on, yet I feel like I'm sleeping in the fridge. I'm going to have to put some bed socks on. I need some sleep mittens.

^ how about coming up with a plan for relaxation and winding down in to sleep?

I can sing you a lullaby if you like? Your brain will go into survival mode and you'll fall asleep to protect your ears.

Like a cat yowling? I think I'm good thanks!!
I need to buy some more Horlicks sometime. My old grandpa's method, a Horlicks before bed.

From Reddit for a routine:

Quote:
Then, here are the behavioral changes the sleep doctor gave me:

Do sports 6 hours before bedtime. I go to bed at midnight, so I have to do sports between 6 and 7pm, basically. This is because it's easier to sleep when your body temperature is low, or something like that.

1.30 or 2 hours before bedtime, start something relaxing

During that time, try to not have any light go directly into your eyes. If you want to watch TV, just have the TV on without other lights on. Use a dimmer if you have one. You don't want to turn the lights on when you go to the bathroom. As was mentioned in another comment, the light/no light tell a small guy in your brain to stop/release melatonin in your bloodstream.

30 minutes before bedtime, eat a snack. You don't want to go to bed with an empty or full stomach. Research has apparently shown that the best food is cheese & crackers (say 3). Best fruit is a banana, warm milk is good too.
When you go to bed, close your eyes and try to think of a calm place you've been to. This was the weirdest to me, but the sleep doctor said that he thinks of a beach, he walks on it, he smells the air, listen to the wind, etc... . Also, he mentioned that you should try to breathe slowly, and the metaphore he used was that if you are on your back, imagine you have a ball on your stomach and you want to make it fall

Wake up immediately when your alarm rings. Try to make a plan before going to bed on what you should do when waking up.

An NHS online program called ‘Sleepstation’ totally sorted my sleep out. Can’t recommend it highly enough for anyone with sleep issues. 7 week program free with GP referral (£300 otherwise) or you can just Google it and find various people who have blogged the content to give you an idea of what it entails. It is brutal, involves ‘sleep restriction’ and other horrors, but well worth it in the long term. Meds are never the answer.
