Online game friends - what??

I have been playing BomberPengu on agame.com for a week or so now, and I have had 7 people request to be my "friend".
I don't understand why. The only experience they have of me is of a small badly coordinated homicidal pengu. What is this all about? Does anyone here start "friendships" like this?

You are reading entirely too much into the use of the term "friend" in this context.

They're not really friends, they're just looking to increase the size of their friends lists for some unknown reason.
