Hello SAUK mods. Maybe I missed something and this problem has come up already, but can someone tell me why the forum keeps login me out? I just spent 40 minutes writing a PM to someone and lost it because the forum logged me out. Every time I login I tick the box to 'remember me', but it does no good.
I'd love some help with this please.

I have the same problem when I click on "new posts", it's been the same for the last few months.

I***8217;m sure that happens to me quite a bit too. Normally I***8217;m writing a PM and doing other things and then press send and I***8217;m no longer logged in. There must be some kind of thing that logs you out if you***8217;re logged in and inactive for x amount of time. A session timeout.

But normally I log back in and press back on my browser and the PM that I***8217;m typing is still there. Hang on let me see which order you need to do it in.

Okay - so when your session has timed out and you press send on the PM, the page becomes a log in page.

You log in on that page. Then it throws you back to the forums list. Not to worry - you can get back to the PM that you were typing.

Press back on your browser (it***8217;ll say thank you for logging in) and you keep pressing back until you get back to the PM that you were typing and the reply box with everything you were typing will still be there.

Another thing to do would be to copy the text before you press send and then if it logs you out then you can just log back in and paste it in the box.

I believe that you are logged out automatically after 30 mins of inactivity. The best thing to do, as biscuits says, is to copy the contents of the PM you were writing, so that you can paste it if you do get logged out.

It shouldn't be doing this when you click on new posts though

Yes, both of these. I habitually copy things before hitting submit on anything. If it's a multipart form and I get logged out then I'll say a little prayer and use the back button method, but that doesn't always work, it depends how the website is set up.

I used to get this an awful lot. But I now (on my laptop and tablet) seem to stay permanently logged in. So if I go off for an hour or two I'm still logged in even tho I've not been active. Also if my laptop switches off when I'm off somewhere or I close it, when I come back I'm still logged in when I come back to SAUK. I don't know how I've achieved this tho.
Whereas my phone logs me out all the time.

^ is it because you***8217;re an admin? You gotta be here 24/7 just in case someone posts a bum pic or something.

Sorry to Tom Morello who received a pm saying, ***8220;hsbskbfbsndhdhdj,***8221; in my attempts to see how you can get back to writing an important pm when SAUK turfs you out.

My phone keeps me logged in all the time, it's on my laptop I have to log in, but I only use my laptop to access this forum once in a blue moon.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure it was like that long before I became an admin.

Yes, I think you are right about there being a certain amount of time and then you are logged out. Usually I would have previewed the PM before submitting it and this stops you from being logged out. I probably didn't preview first. I think there is still a problem with the forum not remembering you. I like to come and go from the forum whilst doing other things and now constantly have to login every time.

^ Just had a thought... Do you delete your browsing history or have your settings to delete browser history when you close the browser? That would stop the automatic log in.

No, I don't think so, but I'll have a look to find out for sure.

Ha! Chrome browser settings for remembered passwords has two lists. One for remembered passwords and one for not remembered. SAUK for some odd reason appeared on both lists. SAUK login is working fine now I've changed the appropriate setting.
