No tats for me. Although I thought about getting one in my 20s, but I never got around to it. I'm also not sure what kind of tattoo I would have chosen, but it probably would have reflected my life back then. Which would have included a pair of comfy slippers and a cosy cardigan. Even back then I was edgy!

I'd love to find out what it feels like. Painful, but in an I'm Dead 'Ard For Sitting Still and Enduring It way, I expect. I just couldn't deal with the close proximity to the tattooist. I'd be up for trialling an automated tattoo robot, but knowing my luck it'd start spinning round and jabbing me in the eye while going 'ERROR. ERROR.'

Not too bothered about the idea of getting something regrettable. I think we should all have an embarrassing one to remind us not to take ourselves too seriously.

I do think it's becoming quite a trend of late to have lots of tattoos though,

it almost seems sheep-like, as if people are just copying other people because it's currently deemed to be a trendy way to look all edgy and "current"

having said that, you probably can get some nice artistic and aesthetically pleasing ones,.. I just haven't seen that many of those.

So I'll stick my head above the parapet and mention the one at the top of my right arm. It's a tree, signifying family to me and carried out on my son's first birthday. My personal take on tattoos is that (for me) they should have some meaning, I wouldn't want Mickey Mouse anymore than I'd want Love and Hate on my knuckles.

I'd imagine they're also popular amongst other tribal groups as well such as Indigenous communities I'd say that's what tattoos represent to football fans, a sense of identity. The key thing though is to represent that identity with some responsibility and that's what's sometimes missing

We used to get them in packs of bubble gum in the '70s. We used to lick them and put the transfers on our arms. Strange what excites you as a kid

I've got one on the underside of my right forearm, it's just a simple line drawing of an origami bird. I got it when I was grieving after my dad's parents died in close succession. It probably sounds cheesy, but I had an origami bird that my grandma had made with me that I'd hung onto for over 20 years until one day losing it in a house move. I was gutted when I lost it, so I thought getting one of that would be a kind of physical reminder that I couldn't lose. I think one day I might get something that reminds me of my mum's parents in the same place on the other arm, for balance.
