Default Do you read books?

I used to be an avid and eclectic reader pre illness but in the 40+ years of being ill the books I have read have been few and far between. I have books bought me for Christmas 2014 that I have not picked up to read . I had only suggested books as presents because I couldn't think of anything I wanted.
I think concentrating on something for any great length of time is the problem. It just seems like too much effort to plough steadily through a book. It also doesn't help that I struggle to visualise characters and scenes from books ie get a mental image of them.

I love books and my over stuffed bookcase takes pride of place in my living room.

I especially like reading a series of books one after the other, and prefer fiction to non-fiction. I am always disappointed with film adaptations as they never seem to be how I imagined them (although Life of Pi was an exception despite the plot differences).

I HAVE to read before bed, mainly because I don't get a chance during the day very often but also I find if I don't it takes me a long time to fall asleep.

I read lots of books. Most of them are non-fiction though, mainly books on politics and economics.

I used to read voraciously.
Can't these days which saddens me. Everything at the minute is too much of an effort.

I read regularly: on the loo, in bed. I would read more if there wasn't that internet thing to distract me.

I love reading books, both fiction and non fiction. I don't read as much as I used to these days. I've been meaning to join the library, it's on my list of things to do this year, but I haven't quite worked up the courage yet!

I can not read fiction no matter how much I've tried.* And I skim read non fiction.
(Might try reading an action fiction book)

I also used to be an avid reader, I loved it. Nowadays, I just don't have the time. I also don't think I have the concentration for it any more. I reckon I'd pick up a book, start to read and my mind would wander. I'd then have to re-read what I'd already read.

I want to do a kind of temporary internet detox to see if I can't get some of these damn books read...bit worried my concentration won't come back, ever.

I've definitely found that my concentration span has shortened since being online. I flit from one website to the next and never stay focussed on a page for long.

I enjoy reading books when I can, usually non-fiction history related books (with the exception of a Song of Ice and Fire), but since I left uni and had my troubles with depression my concentration levels have severely dropped and I struggle to find the motivation to read as well, so it's rare that I manage to sit down and read these days, even though I have a small pile of books next to my bed I've been meaning to read for months lol.

I used to read books a lot, and then kind of got out of the habit of it (probably down to playing Halo far too much).

I've just started reading a lot again, currently reading "Folk Horror Revival: Field Studies", and can't put it down, it's awesome.

I will binge on books for a month or two, then not read another for another 6months. I really struggle to stop my brain whizzing for long enough to concentrate.

I acquired a kindle in September with the intention to get into reading and have read just one 'book' so far

I may go unlimited and take the month trial, but £7.99 (p/m) is a bit steep if i'm getting through just 1/4 of a book per month.

yeah, I do read a lot, and all the time. I don't think I've gone more than a week without reading a book since I was 15!

It's such a source of intellectual nourishment and challenge I can't imagine how people do without it. If my only sources of ideas about the world were facebook, the people around me and tv, well...that wouldn't be good.

But when I've expressed such opinions I've been called an "arsehole".

I really like to read when I'm soaking in the bath. Plus I read a paper everyday.
