Reading, 'Can you hear me mother' by Margaret Forster. Very good.

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
toni maguire-cant anyone help me
The book shows ppl cant usually judge how easy/hard of a life another person has all the time. Its about a rich girl who was constantly abused sexually without her rich parents or most other ppl knowing. In the story it seems she is constantly reminded how lucky she is to have what she has but reading the story she doesn't seem very lucky. |

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
I've been trying to focus on other stuff for the last couple of weeks and so had to put my books aside for a while, but I'm going to get back to them when I find the will again. The books I'm midway through are: Dexter is Delicious by Jeff Lindsay and Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. x

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
I was reading "The Luckiest Girl In The World" but actually meant to buy "The Best Little Girl In The World (Both by the same author.
I stopped reading because it's more like a novel pinned for early teens. Plus, it's kinda creepy the way the male adult author intricately described a 10 year old girl's body... Put me off some. |

I got "The Art Of Travel" by Alain de Botton yesterday, a look at why we go travelling and how we can be happier doing it. Been wanting to read this for a long time

I'm reading It Chooses You by Miranda July. I'm enjoying it so far, it's pretty offbeat.

Anyone on Goodreads.com?
It's sort of like Last.Fm type thingy, but for books. Obviously you have to go on there and add the books you've read or are reading though. If anyone fancies adding me, I think this link should work... https://www.goodreads.com/friend/i?i...gyMTYyMjg6Mzgw |

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
Ralph Miliband being the late father of David and Ed. How his sons turned out to be such wet lettuces is beyond me, but still, this is a good book - it's over 40 years old, but does a good job of outlining why the whole private vs public sector divide is and always has been such a nonsense. |

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
I started reading the Thursday Next books again. I used to love them and read them several times. Been wanting to read them again for years, alas I lent the first one to someone and never got it back. I finally grudgingly decided to buy it again, but I'm glad that I did now.

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
Finished reading Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. Which was full of interesting ideas, but unfortunately I wasn't a fan of the rather bland prose and found large sections of the book to be quite dull to read.
I'm reading Dune by Frank Herbert now. |

Reading that book on the Conservative Party by Tim Bale, it's pretty damn tedious tbh, just like "this happened at a conference, these were the approval ratings from yougov, then this happened" lol, yawn. And False Dawn by John Gray, which i think someone recommended here? which so far is quite hard work but interesting. Not a huge fan of his pop philosophy books, but this is probing and analytical. |

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
I don't really like to read fictional books. I prefer to read factual things really.
At the moment, i've just got round to reading Private Eye: The First 50 Years, which is about the satirical magazine. Its a fascinating read if you're a Private Eye fan. |

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
Quite enjoyed this one - there aren't too many books specifically on the history of socialist/radical liberal history in the north so I felt like I learnt quite a lot from this. There's also some discussion on how regional devolution might look in the future, but that section felt kind of truncated compared to the stuff on Chartism and the emergence of the Independent Labour Party. Food for thought, though. |

Re: What book(s) are you reading at the moment?
Finished reading Dune yesterday which was absolutely fantastic, such an incredible piece of story telling, world building and even social commentary. Definitely one classic that really lives up to all the accolades that have been lavished on it over the years.
Next up I'm reading Life of Pi by Yann Martel. Been meaning to read this for a while, looking forward to it! |
