^ Yes, I had a pair of these

They were called Clackers, Knockers or Click Clacks.

Mine were bright orange, and I think I've still got them tucked away somewhere, although now looking a little worst for wear. They were made of acrylic and if swung too hard the acrylic would shatter sending shrapnel flying everywhere. I'm sure some kids almost lost their eyeballs this way. Not to mention the bruised wrists as the balls clacked together. But oh what fun

I read that Clackers were banned in about 1985.

Once Health and Safety intervened all the fun seemed to stop

Did anyone have a Poncho?

As a child I wore a hand knitted poncho in red, white, and blue stripes, very snazzy, and my grandmother knitted an identical poncho for my best friend, so we could look like twins although I was about 5 inches taller than her.

They made a bit of a comeback recently but I read somewhere that if you were old enough to wear a fashion the first time round then don't wear it when it comes round again, unless you want to look stooped, so I didn't

No i had the grandma hand knitted tank top a little like this

tho i had one in brown/fawn/white which led to limited bullying at school but for some reason my nan (bless her) though a second one in baby pink/salmon/white would also look good, needless to say the bullying ratio for that was a little higher

I agree, although I would love to see a vinyl at work we have so much access to media nowadays, it's unbelievable. I can imagine not having enough money to buy albums if I was living in pre youtube days.

Digital media is also clutter free

As for film the digital is great for snap shot but it has taken away the skill and art of pictures. It took me years and many films testing out setting & exposure times to perfect my nightime photography now with a digital i can take a picture in the day, upload it onto my computer and alter it to make it look like night. With my flower close ups i needed extra close up lenses and the right exposure but with digital i can just stand there snap a flower upload to pc edit and cut just the flowers head then enlarge back to original size, no skill, no effort, no enjoyment.
As for the smartphone i would love to go back to a world where people actualy have time for eachother, will talk and do not walk around with a phone permanently on and attatched to them, i dont have one nor would i if you gave me one for free it would go straight on ebay. bah humbug
I also like the art work on physical media but although I'm not into photography I disagree with your arguement. Making certain things easier/ more available means we are more able to do better thngs with the media or thing. Eg. Think about how hard it must have been to learn academic things when most people weren't taught to read. The net makes it easier for misfits to find ppl who experience similar problems to them and that gives them more power towards challenging social equaity.

Howd' u know ppl aren't speaking to there friends through social media on their phones?

Hot Wheels - with superchargers. The little houses have rotating sponges that propel the cars as they pass through

That smoking would become as socially unacceptable as it is, with laws being passed against it.

Back in the 90's all the pop stars, some footballers and cricketers, and loads of politicians could regularly be seen chuffing away. (I think even Tony Blair was caught having a crafty fag but I may have dreamt that). It would be unthinkable that within 15 years it would be banned in all public buildings, on trains and in cars with children. How times change. If a member of One Direction were caught smoking these days, there'd be a furore , whereas I saw loads of pictures of Take That and East 17 in the tabloids with a fag on. I think East 17's official pictures had them with cigarettes as they were meant to be more 'hard' than Take That.

I remember the smoking carriage on trains in the 80's!

I feel quite sorry for smokers sometimes, being made into such pariahs and having to huddle outside the front steps of buildings whereas 10 years ago you could sit and have a fag with your pint.

That the whole gay culture would become as accepted and as mainstream as it is now.

The other week, Marcus and Todd got it on in Corrie, with their shirts off, at 8.00 in the evening. There is no way that would have been shown even 10 years ago, let alone 20 years ago, and 30 years ago in the culture of Section 28, forget it! It was not so long ago that we hounded poor Alan Turing to death for being gay.

I remember 15 or so years ago, The Sun ran a story in which they outed the lead singer of Ocean Colour Scene. OCS had the image of being a blokey band, with cigarettes and pints etc and I don't think they were expecting the reaction of the fans and the public at large to be a massive : 'SO?'. That was the sea change for me.

That is one way in which we have changed for the better since I was young.

^ Haha, I had a Slinky. I think they still make them but they're made of crappy plastic instead of metal.

My dad was a primary school caretaker and the school had the metal ones in some of the classrooms.

I remember the hole in the road. According to Wikipedia, it was filled in in 1994, so I'd have been 10 or 11. I thought it way longer ago than that! (I can clearly remember being 10, but the hole in the road is a very vague memory). For some reason I thought it was much further up than that as well, nearer to west street.
