Are you a member of any other forums ?
I have always connected to people via forums and chatroom etc, form old skool newsgroups, IRC right up to now.
Over the years I have set up and administrated many, currently 2 I think, no three. For me they are really important and although this one has a very special function, when you find a decent friendly (but not pushy) forum that is NOT reminding you of problems it is a real help. Don't be put off by those cliquey ones that frown on off topic discussion. There are tons of those. I know many are very unfriendly and don't take the time to get newbies used to the style but some really are life changing. Do you guys use any others ? If so what type. I wont go into further details about each for obvious reasons. I have a very large car one that I administrate and chat on daily. I have good mates there. Another car one, just a member.Just for info really. A very random small geek one evolved from newsnet, which I run. An astronomy one where I am just a member but nice friendly atmosphere. A drugs one, just a member, laws, stories and help. NOT buying them A programming one, purely for info, there is NO atmosphere at all. A linux one, just for info. A radio control model once for RC cars, planes quads etc. I never quite fit in here, perfectly nice but just not gelled. I think it is because they all do stuff the same way if you ask about trying it different you get told to do it correctly, fk that Oh, and a 3d printer forum for sharing stuff to print. The large car one really has changed my life. An admin there was the first person I told about my SA, I would say about 10-20 of them I now consider really important mates, many I have not met. I meet about 20 of them once a year and even organise events for up to 50-60 of them. Basically my created online persona, which grew over about 5 years was forced to be real when I realised I was now admin and I really had to attend. Of course I wouldnt sleep but would normally make it, have a few beers while feeling very much like my forum character and chatting about forum stuff. An hour or so later I am myself, and netting away like I didnt care. This is very rare for me, even brand new members, I end up relaxed and making them feel at easy. I am convinced it is down to the way that my friendships developed and the fallback option I have which is how people see me on there. From reading just text. |

No just here, I used to lurk on the Bike Radar forum quite often but was too scared to join, now I don't ever look on there.

If you have the interest I would try a few other bike ones, you may feel comfy in one and it really does help you communicate and relate to others without worrying about meeting and actual conversations.

Yeah, a forum for Skoda owners, being one myself.

Re: Are you a member of any other forums ?
I used to be. However, people tended to have petty or quite abusive arguments on the other forums I've been on.
This place is far more civilised! |

I remember I used to post on the Daily Mail forum regularly - dark days!

Re: Are you a member of any other forums ?
I've tried a few different anxiety related forums, but this has been the most friendly

Re: Are you a member of any other forums ?
Several over the years. Two linguists ones (one of which I set up/ran), an F1 one, a few TV show ones and a few SA ones. SAUK's the only one I've stayed with over a long period though.

MSE, digital spy - I used to post loads there for a while but don't anymore - and a few satellite TV ones.

Re: Are you a member of any other forums ?
Don't really do other forums any more. Back in the day I was admin of a hooky film site that specialised in rare and old movies, but I generally can't be bothered these days. I browse a few forums as a guest - digital spy and a few linux/linux gaming ones - but I don't take part.

Re: Are you a member of any other forums ?
I've tried a few other forums related to my interests but I didn't stick with them. There's only been one that I found that I really liked and was a regular active member on for a few years, and I even made friends on there (although no longer in contact with them now).

Re: Are you a member of any other forums ?
Thanks for replies, it is a shame most of you dont seem to have found anywhere that you feel you can gain experience of social interaction without the face to face problems or real life.
Only one of many of mine has so I guess it isnt common. It is worth making an effort though, well i think anyway. |
