Last Days in the Desert
On his way back to civilization jesus comes across this family in the desert. He helps build a house and bonds with their son. Ewan McGregor plays a really good Jesus. 7/10

Popstar: Never Stop Stopping. Always like Andy Samberg and all the Lonely Island stuff. It's ridiculous, yet makes me smile!

The Purge: Election Year. Yeah, 2 sequels too many for this one.

Jason Bourne 5/10

Uhh, they made this into just a common, average action movie. It lost the uniqueness/identity the first 3 had before (and even 4 maybe!). The plot was terrible as well.

Young Frankenstein 5/5.

We watched it in honour of Gene Wilder. I've seen it so many times, maybe it's just not making me laugh as much anymore.

may be some spoilers here

Taken 2 6.5/10. Seemed to have a touch of bourne. Lots of shaking camera's in the fight scenes, I might just have noticed it. Liam Neeson seems to be getting more American than Irish

Interstellar - hard to say, I can see why some people liked and some people disliked. 5/10 for story, 8/10 for cinematography/effects.

Thor 6.5/10. Thor picks up a chick with some background on Loki

Transcendence - 6/10. Gets a bit wierd halfway thro, might need to watch it again. Seems to be using a special effect

David Brent: Life On The Road.

Bit of a Brent vanity project. Sad in places with his usual cringey humour. Can't tell if the songs are part of the joke or if he's trying to make a serious attempt at recapturing the charts.

Wasn't really sure was the core plot point was about until near the end as they just started from the very beginning of a hack of some secret government program without saying what it actually was.

Story was pretty weak that just was basically them chasing Bourne at different locations who is catching up on leads and the directing that it has the modern action movie tropes of 24 camera movements, shaky cam and the multiple edit cuts and close up shots during the car chase and final fight scene.
crikey I thought warhorse was a classic, and Jason Bourne I would have rated at least 7! Guess we're all different!

The man who knew infinity
Cool film about the life and work of indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. I've never seen so many numbers and squiggly lines in a film before. It makes you want to get out your calculator to do some sums after watching it 8/10.

The Wickerman
One of my favourite films, brilliant as always. Wanted to sing along but had company :-( 10/10

Dread. Too drunk to experience it fully so maybe a harsh score 6/10. Looked visually interesting in places, but not interesting enough for me to watch again sober I don't think

The Martian. 7/10

It's really heavy on the science-y talk but, thankfully, they bottom-line it for us plebs.
“There’s a problem with the override controls! I think I can use the ancient art of cuneiform and combine it with particle emission theory to create an equation that should, when inputted into the system, create a diffusion in the ionic reaction of the nuclear thingymajig.”
Okay, and what does that mean, Matt?
“It means this door will open.”
Right, thanks, mate, that’s all I needed to know, it’ll make the door open.

EDIT: I've taken a point off it because it made me feel like a drooling moron.

^ the book's even more science-y!

Suicide Squad - man alive this was a stinking turd. One of the most poorly and cynically put together films I've seen in a while. And probably the worst use of music I've seen a film. Jared Leto's take on the joker mythos was dreadful, and Margot Robbie's mockney accent was quite painful. 2/10

^ I really liked that film. Ezra Miller plays the part all too convincingly.

The last one I saw was The Fundamentals of Caring. I wasn't too impressed. You almost get the impression the film is entirely based on a mind-map Netflix and the filmmakers came up with that had 'Heart-warming/Life-affirming Movie' in the middle and all the cliches you can imagine on the periphery. Don't trust the Netflix viewer rating.

^And it's not beyond the bounds of what some people could actually do! I'd be buggered. I'd be buggered if I was just stuck on a humdrum tropical island. Hell, i'm buggered if i miss the last bus home!

Hunt For The Wilderpeople.
8/10

Directed by Taika Waititi, the guy who made Eagle Vs Shark, What We Do In The Shadows and Boy. Hilarious and uplifting film about a young delinquent and an old bushman on the lam in the outback.
I love how Kiwi humour likes to elevate mundane things to special status, like "Look at you, bro, eating Kellogg's Frosties for breakfast. Mr rich over here." Only a Kiwi would say it more like "Lick it yew, brew, eating Killoggs Fristies fir brickfist. Muster Rutch ewver hea."

^Cheers. I think it's mine, too. I can't think of any others that come close, except South African, which sounds almost exactly the same as the Kiwi accent.

Oldboy is a good film, but i don't think it's one that has any re-watch value on account of the 'ohmygod' big reveal ending which puts into perspective everything that's happened; i think if you watch it again, it would be impossible not to be looking at everything in the light of that huge revelation.

Promethius.
I had low hopes going into this- Being a sci fi I bet I'd heard of it, or I'd tried to watch it before, so I gave it 8 minutes. And it surprisingly drew me in. Sort of like the mummy exploring in weird worlds, what is going to happen, and with an additional draw of what is each character hiding?
I never really watched the original Aliens, just remember bits and bobs of it, and from I could tell this was a remake? Anyway, I think the ending was maybe not so good, opened up far more questions,-more so how it even connected to the rest of the aliens film series.
But an 8/10 as I enjoyed it.

Kill Bill, both volumes 1 and 2.

Finally got round to watching what is perhaps Tarantino's most well known film(s). It was excellent. The violence is perhaps a bit too much for me, but the storyline, characters, settings, music are just superb. They way the film is put together feels so different from most other films and it works really well for me,

Volume 1 was better I thought - more going on. Volume 2 went a bit slowly for me.

The Shallows
There was alot of hype surrounding this so it was disappointing it turned out to be a disappointment. It could have done with more suspense and the ending was like wow only not a good wow. There is a really clever seagull in this who's real name is sully 'steven' seagull. 4/10
