That is a very difficult question. There are some very high quality shows, such as the Wire for example, but such shows aren't always my favourites. So for the sake of this list I will focus on my favourites. I can't name just one, I'm not capable!

- X Files, as there were great characters, great stories, and it was great fun.
- Firefly - such a great show with fantastic characters. Real cult classic.
- Buffy. It is a show that so many people love and it had great characters. It also had strong female characters which were lacking at the time (and still are).
- Breaking Bad. Very well made, great characters, very funny. I'm only on season 4 at the moment though so still a bit to watch.
- Battlestar Galactica (new version). Really smart show with well written characters.
- 24. Quite an original concept. Always got my heart pumping with its fast pace.

I tend to watch mostly fantasy/sci-fi stuff so my list is mainly from that genre. Having good characters is the most important thing to me, so many shows have poorly written characters and one dimensional women.

Other than that show that I love that no-one really wants to hear me go on and on about....hm, Star Trek: The Next Generation.

I used to really like a series called Cold Case which was a bit like CSI but it was bringing back old cases from the past.

I liked American Horror Story series too, very much. Sex and violence, what not to like.


Generally, I do not watch much TV and particularly dislike shitty American TV.

My favourite is 'True Blood' and it just gets better with each series. The third series was hilarious and it is just like a black comedy. It's got everyone I like - vampires/shape shifters, werewolves - and when the werewolves change back into humans, well I have never seen so many gorgeous blokes naked

It's my all time fave tv show. Truly amazing, brilliantly written, superb cast & performances, smart, and its subtle humour is first class.
It was consistent through out.

all very good. Why can't we produce the same quality? We did some excellent dramas in the 70s but now it's all crappy cop and hospital stuff.

Also Weeds is good, but occasionally hit and miss.

lol snap. Starting watching it few days ago. Currently onto season 2 ep 1. Quite good so far, although characters don't have the same depth as in the Wire/Sopranos (easier to follow than those two though) But I can only give a full assessment once I have seen it all.
