Default Which OS?

I am currently using Vista. Am wary of Windows 8 as it seems, from what i've read, like a radical change, and i'm not sure i'm up to the learning process . I don't do well with big changes.

Windows 7 Pro

I rather either stick to that or use a different OS than go to windows 8.

Iv sortof done some basic setups for windows 8 on some laptops for other people. Since it wasnt mine I didnt need to do a drastic overhaul to make it even /usable/ and only set it up for them... Leaving it in the horrible layout it comes in.

Finding just very basic settings I wanted to change was completely ridiculous. The default methods for finding things was awful long-winded unnecessary navigation. Just to find even 'moderate' settings > 'basic' settings shouldnt be that hard to navigate to. I felt like the OS thought I was a moron and did it damn hardest to hide the juicy settings behind closed doors while providing me with the idiot settings. Found it to be completely unnecessarily frustrating. I rather watch the bbc news than ever have to look at windows 8 again.

Windows 7 is what I would prefer over any older ones.

I wouldn't bother with Windows 8 firemonkey, Windows 7 is a worthwhile upgrade though.

I'm probably the only one here on Windows 8. Apparently, it's getting an update that will bring back the start menu. Whether that update is called "Windows 9" remains to be seen.

Windows 9 apparently might come out next year. I have a Windows Vista obviously with the aero interface. The pc is not as good as it use to be and automatically turns off sometimes. I would like ifi knew how to customise and repair the pc.

The main problem is because it does not have start menu button you can't just click on the program to run it if it does not have a Desktop shortcut that I never used in XP.

The OS is stable that I have not had any problems with it and a like the Metro screen where you can download and run apps like BBC IPlayer or anything else and quickly snap back and forth to the desktop.

The updates are also much faster then XP in downloading and installing.
I used it at work and the desktop mode is like Windows 7. I didn't get use to the app based interface though.

I'm running Windows 7 on my PC, and installed 8 on our netbook (came with 7 basic) as it suits it - getting used to 8, but much prefer 7. Used Linux in the past, various flavours.

It might turn off due to overheating, usually due to dust build up on fans/heatsinks or because the CPU needs new heatsink paste.

PC's can slow down over time as more things get installed, and hard drives deteriorate. A proper defrag can really help, the built-in windows defrag isn't the best.

Windows 7. Easily the best Microsoft OS I've used, beating out the old fav XP.

8 was horrible. Even worse than the un-patched Vista, 8.1 fixes a lot of the problems but people will just wait for 9, which is looking like a good mix of 7 and 8.1.

I am on Windows 8.1, hated the new start menu but found an app from iobit which reverts the start menu back to the vista style (not sure what 7 was like). I still think nothing has beaten XP for ease of use it was by far the best windows ever.

Linux. I haven't used Windows for years (apart from trying 8 when it came out – that didn't last long).

Win 7 Pro.

Having helped friends and neighbours with laptops pre-loaded with Win 8, I agree with all the criticism here of Win 8. 8.1 isn't much better. What the hell were MS thinking of? Most things just take so much longer to accomplish in Win 8.

Mavericks and Windows 7 within a virtual machine - best, and worst, of both worlds.

Linux all the way these days. Windows 8 finally got me to switch permanently after dabbling for a few years.

Macs have always rubbed me up the wrong way a bit, not because OS X isn't nice, but because you have to buy Apple branded hardware to run it. Not the most appealing business model.

Android for a mobile OS, for much the same reasons.

Windows 7. I waited until it came out before I bought my laptop because I didn't want one with vista pre-installed. It's fine for me. I really don't need an OS to do a whole lot apart from the basics. I also use my phone and tablet for most things and they're both Android. The only apple product that appeals to me is the ipad because it has better apps than Android tablets and you can plug a guitar into it
